Currently reading : 30 years a watchtower slave

    Cannot put it down.

This book pre-dates Ray Franz book "Crisis of Conscience", written from early 20th century, shortly after the Jehovah's Witnesses were formed. The author describes the original true background of the Watchtower Society as a multi-million dollar publishing company. The only goal of the society was to push publications to make money. The author even describes the propaganda created by J. Rutherford during WWII that landed several Jehovah's Witnesses in jail/concentration camps unnecessarily under NAZI regime just to "prove" that so called true Christians were to be "tried and tested". This is a must-read for current JWs.

A few lines: "While Peter conclusively showed that each christian as an individual would be part of that nation under god n christ, the watchtower distorted this concept and interpreted it to refer to a class. Thus this new nation , born in 1925 through the effulgence of the watchtower magazine was to have its end composition:a faithful and wise servant class, a theocracy of gold, ruling from the top down, as well as a theocratic mass of unspiritual Jonadabs, who have no part in this kingdom or nation, but are absolutely subject to its bidding!"

Well written book in my opinion.I learn things that I did not before from someone who was alive in that period and describes it through his eyes!

Has anyone read it ? What are your thoughts?

Marley Cole I believe. This was in or bookshelves 50 years ago. It was my first furtive glance under the stone as a boy.

Edit to say, I am confusing Marley Cole's book "Jehovah's Witnesses - The new World Society". We had them both on the shelf.

Proof of this statement - JWs refer to themselves as "Publishers" of the Good News.

    Publisher

    Noun

a person or company that prepares and issues books, journals, music, or other works for sale.

When I was going over "the questions" before being baptized, I asked the elder: "what is a publisher?' I probably knew what his answer would be. I am a very logical person. I couldn't visualize how I could be a person that would print and publish books. I wanted a logical explanation which never came. I was told by the elder it was a "JW that kept track of the time spent speaking to non JWs." Oddly, all it really was; simply JW speak applied to the incorrect term. I feel we should have been called associates or representatives. Not Jehovah's Witness publishers. Still doesn't make sense to me to this day! I went ahead anyway to be baptized even though I wasn't the publisher. Hence, I really became a salesman, employees for free of a corporation. I attended all the sales meetings locally, regionally. I visited the home office on occasion. I was applied for promotions to commit extra time sell publications and recruit other sales persons. I went to weekly training meetings at a school to listen to and participate in skits, skits critized by already top sales people. I wore my out clothes, automobiles, and my body. I ignored my job at times in order to spend additional time working for free. I endangered my life and my families lives by adhearing to the company health plan rules on blood. Oh, my goodness, what was wrong with me?

When I first took a furtive look through Schnell's 30 Years a Watchtower Slave, I wasn't that impressed with it. He seemed to make a lot of claims, but offered very little in the way of evidence.

Those in the "territory" who cited Schnell's work all seemed to have that wild-eyed fanatical look about them, and that, too, seemed to be the tone of the book. It came over as being written by an extremely bitter ex-member who just wanted to "vent his spleen", as the saying goes.

Part of this could well be the more forthright manner of speaking that is common in eastern Europe, but still, I was never left with the impression that here was a great work of literature!

Thechickennest, at the end of each month, you likely 'published' a time report that was submitted to WT to report your preaching activities. Although the report may not have been sold for money, you sold your time reported to WT for their benefit for $0.

30 Years a Watchtower Slave by William Schnell. Yes I've read it and it's amongst my collection of 'apostate books', LOL.

    Yeah it's a good read I concur.

When I ordered my copy earlier last year from amazon, I must have received one of the earliest printed copies, LOL.

    But, very good read nonetheless.

Funny, I was going to call my book "New Boy" "50 years a Watchtower slave." since I had him beat by 20 years but decided against it lol.

The Bethelite, your book is awesome too.
    It's also amongst my collection!!

Yeah, just think if you named your book ''50 years a Watchtower Slave''. That would've been hilarious.
