Now Hooberus you know full well that that is merely another example of the author of Matthew's stretching the OT words to appear to be prophecies.
The Hebrew version of 22:16 admittedly appears to have been corrupted (as it makes no sense) when it says,"dogs...encircle me, like the lion my hands and my feet."
So the Hebrew does not suggest "piercing" at all.
The LXX, which says nothing about a lion, was the source of the quote. It says," dogs...encircle me, they maul/dig into my hands and feet".
The writer illustrates his enemies as encircling dogs biting at his hands and feet thrust out to ward off attack in his song about the injustice suffered by good people.
Only to a fertile imagination could it have been understood as a prophecy about crucifixtion. The author of Matthew had just that.
