Anyone on here, who can recommend some good Canadian movies/film?

    I can recommend a few.

"Goin' Down The Road" (1970 - still brings tears to my eyes)

"Act Of The Heart" (1970) Genevieve Bujold and Donald Sutherland. Set in Montreal. A young woman's religious convictions and her love for a Catholic priest, well....check it out. Genevieve Bujold, to me, is still one of my favourite actresses (from Montreal).

"Slipstream" (1972) - Canadian prairies, where the music filled the skies, and a thunderstorm took to the microphone....cool!

"Kamouraska" (1973) - period setting in rural Quebec, but damn fine!

"Exotica" (1994) - set in Toronto, it's hypnotic, bizarre...and all comes together in the last few minutes.

"The Sweet Hereafter" (1997) set in the interior of British Columbia. It's odd, but interesting, and has some really brilliant moments.

"My American Cousin" (1985) also set in the interior of British Columbia, but set back in the early 1960s. Very cute. Even you Americans, would get it.

There are many more, I will add later. These are the ones that have 'hit' me early this a.m. - there are some French Canadian films that are excellent as well.

    Anyone like to add?

Thanks Rayzorblade! Now, as a Canadian, I'm embarassed. I haven't seen or heard of any of the above movies. I think I heard of "My American Cousin", but didn't know it was a Canadian.

I probably need to spend more time away from my mistress (the computer)

Another one from NOva Scotia was..

    "The Butterbox babies"..

If Shera comes back here she might be able to give more info on that one.

A new movie was just made last year called

"The Shattered City".. which was based on the Halifax Explosion.

I'll think some more on this.

    sincerely

By the way.....have any of you Nova Scotians ever seen a movie called One Heart Broken Into Song, about a young black couple who move to Africville? I'd love to own a copy, but can't find it for sale anywhere on the internet.
