    CC,

So sorry to hear of this. I too would like to catch bastards like this and have a go at them for at least 30 seconds.

Get a good dog! Dogs are one of the best security systems you can get. Dogs will run off intruders BEFORE they reach your house. A good dog will also make Tink feel much more secure. (If you find out who it is/was......let me know and I'll bring my bat over and we will go out together and hit some "home runs".

Hey Gumby!! good idea!! Someone told me that I would have more trouble on my hands if I harmed a theif. I told them that first of all they would need SCUBA gear to find them...=:-)>!!

Thanks Simon. Sorry to here that you were a victim as well.

I wouldn't rely too much on a dog. I've heard of incidents where a burglar would open a door, just a few inches, to let a dog stick it's nose out, and then hit it on the head with a metal bar, or pour amonia on it. I'd feel sorry for the dog.

Hey Walter!! I heard the same thing from the detective. He said agressive dog's often are killed or mamed severely. He said they use hair spray right into the dog's muzzle and this suffocates them. That's why we're thankful our two sheepish, scaredy-cat little doggies weren't harmed.

Another thing is were thankful they did not light the house on fire. This happened last year very close to where we live. The theif robbed 9 houses and set them all on fire to cover up his crime. The last one he did set off a silent alarm and a Sherif was close by and pulled in just as he set the fire. He was caught and is now in prison.

Hair spray? I never heard of that one! But we're hearing more of people's homes being vandalized as well as robbed. I really think there should be stiffer penalties for these guys. Too often they're given suspended sentences and probation simply for being a first time offender. Well, the first time they're caught. There should be mandatory jail time and restitution for the victims.

Jeez, sorry to hear what happened. You may want to consider a small video camera. Even though it seems like closing the barn door after the horse left, it could be helpfull in the future. We never expect these things to happen to us.

    This is awful!

    Two things I would suggest:

    (1) I agree with those who suggest an alarm system. Yes, they are expensive, but if you check with your insurance agent, you will normally find that the installation of an alarm system will give you a sufficiently reduced rate on your homeowner's or renter's insurance policy to make the installation worth it.

    (2) Install outdoor lighting around the house with motion detectors attached (inexpensive and available at Home Depot, hardware stores, etc.) Doesn't help during daylight hours, but thieves will think twice about breaking in after dark. Besides, in many cases, thieves case a house before burglarizing it, and if they see that your home is protected, they will move on to one of the neighbors.

I am sorry that happened to you. I hate injustice; I hate the worthless people that do stuff like that. They offer nothing positive to society, and yes, I too would love to catch them in the act.

I would encourage you to find a good alarm company, and install it. Not only for the items in the house, but for family.

SFJim and Freedom96, good suggestions. Last year I started painting our house and left the ladder by our bedroom window. One night Tink and I were watching TV and heard a very loud crash outside the window. Someone was approaching the window to peep inside and tripped over the ladder. If I had motion lights that would have prevented it. Nat has been after me to put them up since that happened. I plan on doing that soon without delay!

I am also going to get some kind of alarm system. My family is most important. I really don't care about material thing's. Y'all are right, they can be replaced, live's cannot.
