The Growing Critical Study of Jehovah's Witnesses.

I am very hopeful about the utterly flaccid response of the Theocratic Hierarchy to their growing problems.

They can't seem to defend anything in depth. They ignore or avoid discussion of critical issues.

They increasingly rely on code words and other under handed means of maintaining control.

Eventually, as this lack of vigor deepens, you may actually see ( or hear) the Society make

remarks indicating resignation - quietly giving up. Hearing Barr talk about how Witnesses

aren't "on the watch" anymore is very encouraging.

meta: What did Barr say about JWs not being on the watch anymore? I missed that.

While I welcome the critical analysis of the JW's it disturbs me a little that the governing body "laughs" any critics off as being apostate.

Then they take the same critique's and present them to the rank and file as an example of persecution, there by making all faithful Witnesses close ranks and defend the weak belief structure even harder.

It's nearly a perfect cult mentality.

Texarcanada -- welcome to the board.

The way the GB quickly dismisses any divergent views reveals their FEAR of having their followers see anything but their own warped view of "reality".

I always look at history to see how people reacted in the past. people being creatures of habit are eseantialy the same now as 1000 years ago.

what happened to the millerite movement when it was pridicted that the end of the world would come in 1843-44 and many sold thair farms and did not plant crops and then the apointed time came and went did they all curse miller and go home? no many bought into the new deadline.

and dubbers and adventists have thair roots in the millerite movement. when I was young in 75 I still remember clearly how many moved out of the citys and how real it all was to them that the end was so close. one family the nielsons sold their house in lansing mi. and had just enough money to live till the spring of 76, many had a very hard time, you dont plant crops or save for your retirement all the same. how many dubbers do each of you know who are in thair 60s and 70s who have to work a couple of days a week to make the heat, electric, ect. bills as social security does not make it? all the same and even through all that they have seen thay will be the first to run to a new date or "we are at the tip of the pencil in the end times" I never stops to amaze me. that my friends is why conmen are so prevelant today, one born every second.

So do I look at history -- the Catholic Church reacted badly during the reformation -- the printing press had just been invented an it helped spread ideas quickly --- The WTBTS is identical -- a control freak religion which will have to alter because with the Internet ideas and "Re: The Growing Critical Study of Jehovah's Witnesses." goes around the world literally in minutes -- things will have to change
