When I saw your subject the first word that came to mind was "Freedom!".
But, being free, I now want to help others be free too, so I'll un-witness whenever I get a chance.

skiz good topic!
I'm not looking for the BOrg's definition. What I'm asking is what thought strikes you when you hear an xJW being called an "apostate"
That term makes me think
FREEDOMFreedom YES! Free to think and do as you feel is best for yourself.
I do remember when I was a JW not even looking at the Apostates standing on the corner of the parking lot when coming to or leaving a convention, I thought Jah would zap me then and there........I even told my kids not to look at them.
I also remember the first Apostate I ever knew, she was somewhat mentally challenged so from then on I thought most if not all Apostates were loonies! Sheese........
Shortly after joining this db I became aware of not only the truer defination of the word Apostate but also less fearful of being labeled one myself. Ahhh growth ain't it wonderful!
I had to laugh at gumby:
What is a aprostate to me?
I personally think it is something every single male should have checked out once he reaches 40 years old.
he,hee! You are such a card dude!
Mutz:
It means nothing to me. It's a word used by a cult to scare it's followers into doing what it wants. If I used it to describe myself or others I would just be perpetuating the WT's bullshit.
So very true! But I am still glad to be called one because honestly only a JW would be scared off by it. At least you know who your friends are eh?
Tammy and AlanF......
I take their cult word "apostate" and wear it like a badge of honor!
xjwb12 I love your badge and I say we should make up some T-shirts with that on it sell them and give the proceeds back to Simon for this website, whadaya say?
Oh yeah I would wear this on a t-shirt proudly!

I don't like the word. To me, it's a jw fabrication, created to lump togther those who have left. It's their word as far as I'm concerned, and they can have it.

I asked the elders what they meant when they said I was thinking like an apostate....They were stumped for a minute..they say it all the time without thinking about it...so I told them the dictionary says it's someone who rejects their religion or former beliefs.
Then the clincher...I said under that definition the WT org is an apostate org because it rejects most of its present beleifs every few years.
They're reply..the light gets brighter ....ho ..hum
My idea of the word apostate everytime I hear a dub say it is ''satan worshipper'' that's what they really mean. There are only two sides in their minds.Jehovah and satans.

When I was a young child growing up in a witness home, I remember the word apostate being used. I remember being scared of that word, and what it meant. It was always mentioned in hush tones, like don't say it too loudly.
