NGO is an anacronym for Non Governmental Organization. Nothing more, nothing less. All incorporated organizations are NGO's if they are private, not affiliated with a governmental entity. There is nothing insidious about the WT being an NGO. Any other agency that the WT creates to further their adjenda of book sales will be termed an NGO as well. What was newsworthy from our standpoint was when they attatched themselves to the UN Department of Public Information DPI.

Well no. The scandalous thing about the WT being a UN NGO was not that the WT is an NGO, but that they voluntarily associated with the UN.

Any organisation that isn't governmental is a non-governmental organisation, that's what the term means, after all. There isn't anything scandalous about the Watchtower not being a government (much as they would like to be...lol).

Appreciate your comments, however, the Watchtower Society (has claimed) to be (God's) visible theocratic society or government, here on earth,--meaning--they have preached to have (no part of--or connection to) any form of political governments of any kind. (Make Sure of all Things, pages 351-359)---(Make Sure--pages247--252)---(Make Sure--pages-30--33) Make Sure page--362--States--1. Jehovah's Organization Designed to Accomplish Work

363--States--2. Entire Organization Functions from (God) Down

363--States--3. Jehovah's Vast Organization of Heavenly Creatures Likened to (City) and a Mother.

363--States--4. Heavenly Organization Works Closely with (Earthly), Providing Strong Support.

These statements indicate that the Watchtower Society feels that (they) are God's Government--together with the 144,000,--In fact--The Revelation Book states that the (Dead) 144,000 are (speaking to the ones in the Watchtower (Organization) to direct the preaching work.

So for them to (be part) of (any) worldly organization--especially --as you say--(willfully) is total hypocrisy. Part of the word (government) is govern---as in (Governing Body,--and isn't that what they call themselves?---Thank you so very much---Take care---Voyager

    Voyager:

Thanks for your comments. I agree that the WT involving themselves with "worldly" pursuits that they condemn and discourage their followers from is indeed hypocrisy.

As for Aid Afrique, it would be interesting to find out exactly what this particular WT entity is up to. How is it being funded and where is the money coming from? More interestingly, what is that money being used for?

Excuse me, Voyager... you're missing the point.

AidAfrique is not a "worldly organization." It is, as far as I can tell, owned and operated solely by the Witnesses.

If you can demonstrate some link between AidAfrique and "worldly organizations", that would be interesting. Do you have any such evidence?

(I don't doubt that the Watchtower does make compromises; its stated position of separateness from the world is simply unsustainable. However, if we make claims without evidence, we're just shooting ourselves in the foot and calling into question the validity of any genuine criticisms we may make.)

I have already provided you with the link. Please note the Watchtower Observer link I have already provided you. About the second answer I gave up above, or if you would like, Kent has (plenty) of worldly organizations this organization is associated with. Just go to Watchtower observer and type in AidAfrique--or use the link I have provided you. There is no need for disrespect. I thank you for your interest. It was Kent at Watchtower Observer that gave (me) the information. Please take care, and keep up the good work. I felt the same way you feel. I wanted proof, and Kent has plenty of it.---Love to you and your family---Voyager

Interesting, Voyager... thanks! I thought the third and the fourth links were most interesting.

The third shows that the Witnesses signed a resolution condemning human rights abuses in Iran. The fourth mentions that they gave a consignment of aid over to the UNHCR for distribution.

Frankly, I think that both cases are welcome instances of the group showing a rare desire to help those other than its own members. I do think it's sad and ironic, however, that such actions continue to be against the group's stated policies.
