This Sundays 11/18 WT P.18 pp.3. / Happy Are Those Who Serve "the Happy God"

"Stressful events-such as when a loved one dies or is disfellowshipped..."

Thank you F&DS @ the Watchtower! Thank you! Thank you!

This one sentence sealed the deal for my wife to for the first time verbally declare "death and disfellowshipping the top two stress triggers? these people are sick. OMG this is fear mongering. I have been spinning my wheels for nothing for almost 40 years."

She read it on her own, she reasoned on her own, then voiced it out of the blue. Twas like a light bulb went off.

God I'm going to sleep good tonight.

Well I am glad for you Solzhenitsyn that a light bulb has gone on over your wife`s head with this WT.

I`m curious though why she said what she did .I haven`t seen the article and I`m just wondering what your wife would list as the top two stress triggers ?

Maybe it would be interesting to know what others think would be the top two stress triggers.

It sounds like she has had other lingering doubts festering for a long time and this is the straw that broke the camels back.

For your sake and hers I hope so.

    Take care.

Solzhenitsyn that's great news! I'm really happy for you. Of course they class disfellowshipping as stressful as a death, they're taught to treat their family as if they're dead.

Hope your wife's lightbulb moment continues. Let's hope Mrs Solzhenitsyn defects too! See what I did there.

    That article is messed up!

Under "Qualities of Happiness" - the first quality is mourning....their ability to twist the scriptures is worse than I remember....

"Happy are those who mourn, for they will be comforted." Matt 5:4

Jesus did not have in mind all who mourn for any sort of reason. Even wicked people bemoan the distressing difficulties that characterize these “critical times hard to deal with.” (2 Tim. 3:1) But their self-centered mourning does not draw them closer to Jehovah; hence, it does not lead them toward happiness. Jesus must have had in mind people who are conscious of their spiritual need and therefore mourn the appalling spiritual conditions that prevail. They may recognize their own sinful state and the heartbreaking circumstances that have resulted from human sinfulness.

So we can be happy because we are sad that we are sinful? It really demonstrates that underlying not just the JW dogma, but Christian dogma is the belief that people are innately bad.

Not a point of view I support. Imperfect? Of course. Bad, nope. They really feed off people feeling like POS and having a low opinion of themselves. I remember how that felt and I'm SO HAPPY I don't feel that way any more. Everything with them is so dark and depressing and desperate. And we wonder why people get trapped in there... it's emotionally sticky. UGH.

Thanks for posting this so I can remember why I left. Congrats to all of us who are out and free.

    Excellent news for you both!!

The sick teachings of the org's writing committee goes from bad to putrid and the mind-numbing of the average JW is starting to reach fever-pitch.

The CLAM meeting format & methods are more applicable for prepubescent minds.

Frankly, I’m surprised the Watchtower writers bothered to differentiate “death” from “disfellowshipping” for in JWs’ eyes those two states are virtually the same - such as when they treat disfellowshipped individuals as though dead. Is this ironical or sick or both?

A rare - albeit likely inadvertent - admission from the horse’s mouth that, at its very core, this is one very messed up and unhealthy organization.

As for the nonsense about “happy are those who mourn”, what old “new-age” nonsense is this? It sounds like something a religious recluse would thrive on. I don’t care who is supposed to have uttered those perverse Scriptural words - it’s led to all sorts of endorsements of pain and suffering (both self-inflicted and inflicted upon others) as a physical way to cleanse, purify and prove worthiness for salvation. Spare me the mirth, please.

I can see it now among the many depressed JWs: “Underneath all this misery, we’re really happy”. I guess that’s why JWs can be immersed in their local congregation that is full of misfits and misery, and convince themselves “we’re the happiest people on earth.”

That article is trully horrible....congrats Solzhinitzen!! I know she has struggled inside for some time, and you have had to walk a tight rope as we often do and step back to allow the loved one the space to decide for themselves. Good news!

What an article....they are some piece of work " wicked"( read non Jws) people's mourning a loved one isn't true mourning , or what Jesus spoke of - but they're not inspired) so how dare they put words in his mouth! Ugh!
