No Ambien is a non-addictive sleep aid

Say what? Non addictive? You'd better read some more on it.

? Zolpidem (ambien), is habit forming. Stopping this medication suddenly can cause withdrawal effects if you have taken it continuously for several weeks. Talk to your doctor about the safe use of this medication.

I've never known it to not work on anyone. You'd better plant your but in bed soon after taking an ambien. It's about $3 per pill, and doctors give them out quite sparingly.

Gumby ...........*of the' I believe in "herb" class' for sleep*

I've tried Ambien several times, but that was when I worked at night. It messed up my sleep patterns terribly, so I eventually tried Ambien. Now it worked great. The first night I slept better than I ever have and awoke in the morning feeling completely rested. Unfortunately however, the next night I was wide awaken and didn't fall asleep until 6:30 a.m. and then only slept (very fitfully) for a couple of hours.

With me it consistently throws me off the next night. It's good to break a cycle, but all the time I could see where it would be a problem.

Please be careful with Ambien- it IS addictive. It is not meant to be used for more than 7-10 days. A few years ago, I was being treated for what I thought was a persistent sleep disorder. It turns out it was really depression, and being on Ambien for so long (over a month) just made it worse. Ambien can actually worsen depression if taken too long, it becomes habit forming. It is a good drug if used properly, but some doctors aren't careful with prescribing it.

It also caused me to hallucinate, and say and do things that I didn't remember the next day. I guess this isn't a common side effect, but it does happen. Please be careful, I hope you get your sleep problem under control.

I had exactly this problem and was up cooking in the dark one night and almost started a fire! That was the last time i ever took it. But other nights, i did stuff too--i called it sleepwalking. And in my own personal acquaintances, i know of three people who had the same hallucinations/sleepwalking.

I looked it up on the net and found many other stories of the same sort of thing: one was a policeman who cooked a big meal, did things to his hard drive, and didn't remember it til he found the dirty dishes and saw his pc. He said it scared him because he had a loaded gun in the house.

I think it could be a danger if it affects a person that way. One of my acquaintances tried to go out and drive a car, but a friend stopped them. You don't realize what you're doing when you're taking it.

    Pat-

I have another friend who used to take it because she has narcolepsy. We used to exchange "happy pill" stories all the time. Her roomate would have to chase her around the apartment and make her go back to bed. She would call people on the phone, send crazy emails, make comfy nests in the bathtub and sleep there, all kinds of stuff. But "official" drug company info does not mention this as a common side-effect. Thanks for your comments, good to know I'm not crazy!

    Hi Kj,

I noticed that too that the drug companies don't list that as a side effect, because it certainly does seem to be common, when i personally know 3 people who had the same thing as me. Plus, when i looked it up on the net there were a lot of people who had this problem too. One night i wrote a long "love" letter to an old friend and didn't even remember it till i saw it the next morning. The only way that pill would work for me is to lock me in the bedroom! The scariest thing is driving possibilities. You really don't know what you're doing, except you seem normal not drunk or anything. Weird.

You know...it was so long ago that I quit taking it and reading some of these posts I do remember that I had a problem with sleep walking...mainly into the kitchen and forages into the refrigerator. Woke up one morning with slices of bread in my bed (and hubby and I weren't even having kinky sex...oops...can I say that here?? Yup...bread is a real turn on!) Cathy L.
