Thank you JH, I did sleep wonderfully well afterwards. Big Tex, reduce stress levels, eh? ((BT)) Estee, no worries, even *should* I totally believe it was demonz, be haunted for the rest of my natural life and thereafter, I WILL NEVER go back to that hall. The elders can kiss my ass, all hell can freeze over, and I would still not move an inch in that direction. Lol, no worries there. Thanx Avi Gumby, yeah me too. I had those nightmares when I just left. Big bolts of fire were consuming me cuz I turned my back on Jah, ahem... Just showes how brainwashed we were, and how our minds were trained like puppets. Leave, and alll hell (at least in the mind) breaks loose. Valis, you're a sweetheart. No need to go to the coffeeshop tho, got some right here Gumby, lol _ Blue Bubblegum Girl

this used to happen to me a lot (when I was growing up in JW and for many years after my DF). It's really scary if you think about demons - please rest assured it is a very 'natural', albeit terrifying thing to have happen. I know that feeling of 'needing a hug', ain't that the truth! Night terrors are the worst - and take all day to recover. Have a puff, it'll calm your nerves (right on V).

It turned out to be part flashbacks, part sleep problems (still have them, not as often)

A lot of people experience this paralysis upon waking (it's part of coming out of a sleep cycle). Didn't read the article referenced, but I will.

Don't be scared to sleep, it'll get better!

Interesting thread, I have never been plagued with anything like that, although I went through a phase of studying all sorts of alternative spirituality, witchcraft, paganism etc.

Its interesting to note that most cases of demonic attack occur where the subject has been brought up in a strict religious environment, in earlier times notibly catholics. It seems that those that experience such things are those who have been taught to fear it most.

I have come to the conclusion that 'the only evil is that which exists within the heart of man.'

That is not to say that such phenomia, even though eminating from within our own minds is not powerfull, yet we must remember that this is created within our own minds.

The sleep paralysis manifests itself in differing ways, in people taught to fear the supernatural the mind creates demonic possession as the explaination. In the middle ages, this was the description of the Incubbi and Succabi.

In another case where a whole town in germany became possessed by devils it was traced to a particuarly damp year and the ergot mould had taken hold on the rye crop which was made to make bread. Ergot produces substances very similar to LSD.

Interesting that the case of Jacob's ladder in Genesis, where Jacob climbs a ladder to heaven and talks to God, occurs shortly after the unfortunate 'mandrake' eating incident, His wife had bought them because she belived they were aphrodisiac's, although they do contain hallucinogens. My own case of having tea on the lawn with a very English God occurred shortly after a particuarly fierce joint, God has a very nice English country house with parkland, we had tea on the terrace at a white cast iron patio table, very civilised. I later descended into hell and had a chat to the devil in order to get a balanced perspective on matters. Hell was everything I imagined it to be, obviously as my mind was deliberately enbellishing the landscape. Satan told me he would show me all my fears, to which I replied that I had seen them all before and there was nothing he could show me that would scare me. All in the mind.

Sleep paralysis sounds like a good explanation and I hope you never have another episode like that again.

You are not dead to God, by the way, and please don't let the JWs convince you of that. I also felt that way when I was first DF'd.

I'm glad you started to feel better. Panic attacks and sleep paralysis are both very different things. But they can also both be related to similar causes. Number one is lack of sleep. number two is stress.

In the US about 20 yrs ago there were some immigrants from Laos/Cambodia who were called the Hmong people. I lived in WI at the time and my friend Chris lived across the street from one Hmong family. Well believe it or not, more than one Hmong person died from the stress of culture shock ! You have gone through both a culture shock (DF) and bereavement of your grandmother. These are not symptoms to be taken lightly. Maybe your doctor can prescribe a sleep aid, it'll help immensely.
