Anyone who is a fan of John Lennon or the Beatles is very aware of his darker side. He's not Christ, ya know! So he had issues. *shrugs*

Favorites ... two that I relate to, and that last one, well, just because (it's a secret).

    Missing you Johnny. PL&H

"Mother! You had me, but I didn't have you."

"Say it again. God is a concept, by which we measure our pain."

"The way things are goin', they're gonna crucify me."

    "The dream is over."

Thank you John, for expressing how I feel. Paul shows us joy, you shared our pain.

I was not a John Lennon fan. One of my besties, Steve, called in sick to work the next day. He used to come to our house every weekend, and we'd play cards or Risk, have a few, and he told me that he took the day off because of JL. He was grieving.

It had not occurred to me, how much he was loved. Over the next few months, Steve 'educated' me on John Lennon, the good, the bad and yes, the ugly. It was profoundly moving to me, to learn his story, and changed my life in a way that is hard to define. I guess you could say that my transformation from enforced-JWism to hippie and authentic self, felt compete for the first time. I still had a long way to go with therapy (LOL), but yeah.

So, that's my John Lennon story.

I wish Band on the Run was still on the board, she has some great stories from NYC, and her love of JL.

    xx

I became a John Lennon fan when I was 17, 18. I remember when I first heard 'Mother' how stark and raw it was. 'Mamma don't go! Daddy come home!' - he really shouts at the end there.

I gotta say, I love that raw, leathery, nasal quality to Lennon's voice. He could sing gentle songs well, but he could really let rip with larynx-shredding Rock n Roll, too.

    LoveUniHateExams,

Agreed. I was in my late 20s, and I had no idea. Had only heard the top 40 stuff. He could really sing the blues, had some real chops on his Rock'n Roll album.

John had a conscience. It's obvious in his life's course, and the music that came out of it.

Hi dear flipper.... loved the song Imagine, especially when leaving watchtower. Funny until that time I never really heard those words John was singing! Hope you and the family are well & looking forward to a nice holiday time.

I've often wondered.....if John was still alive, how many more wonderful song would be available. He was the genius behind the Beatles as far as I'm concerned. In my opinion.... Woman and Imagine are two of the greatest songs in the history of the world.

    Just sayin'......

It may be news to some , who point out that John Lennon was not perfect , neither was Jesus Christ perfect.

Think about it , Mary was an imperfect human being and the seed from God was perfect shall we say .

    It takes two to make a baby 50% imperfection + 50% perfection =imperfection .

If I went into a pub and the bartender told me he would give me the perfect beer , and then he poured 50% of beer into a pint and then poured 50% of contaminated water to fill that pint I would throw it over him .

John Lennon was an imperfect human being , like the rest of us , who was responsible for some of the great songs of today

." Imagine" is the song that the U.N. should make a reality of on Earth , adopting it in there charter , then again maybe I`m dreaming.

I just rediscovered this song after the shootings and I have a whole new appreciation for Lennon. His contribution to Humanism is truly a beautiful thing.
