    ``4978 baptisms per week?" Is that how the text expresses it? If so, it would seem a deliberate ploy to obscure the fact that the total is down from the prior year.

    Is childlessness still strongly encouraged?

    Not like in the 40's, 50's, 60's, and 70's. Since 1975, 1984, 1994, and the end of the 1914 generation, most JWs choose to have children using the same parameters as the community around them. Thus famlies in the US tend to be around 2 children each. Families of 3 or more do get a second glance even among non-JWs. I think that is because if there were no children born to JW families, the number of new JWs would drop dramatically. Blondie
