Witness Costume Parties?

Does anyone remember a Watchtower saying that costume parties were inappropriate for Christians? I seem to remember that they were labeled in the "deamon" category, even if you had one and it had nothing to do with Halloween.

Is this true? Does anyone remember this crap?

I had a friend who went to a costume party when he was little (witness) as a DEVIL! HA HA HA!

We used to have costume parties in the spring to avoid the Halloween connotation. Then that article came out and that was the end of it. Elders and even the CO came to one. No problems but the WTS was afraid that the homosexuality lurked...

Fine oversight of a social gathering includes its planning and preparation. This does not require devising a catchy theme to make it unique or memorable but which would imitate worldly parties, such as costume balls or masquerade parties. Can you imagine faithful Israelites in the Promised Land planning a party where all were to dress like pagans in Egypt or another land? Would they plan sensuous dancing or wild music that might be the rage among pagans? Back at Mount Sinai, they did get ensnared in music and dancing such as may have been current and popular in Egypt. We know how God and his mature servant Moses viewed that entertainment.

Sadly, however, not all those claiming to love Jehovah have always honored him and given clear evidence that they have rejected worldly desires or ways. It is reported that certain dedicated Christian men attended a masquerade party dressed as women. Could such behavior be considered unworldly or an honor to Jehovah? Surely, actions of that kind are not what we would expect of those who are "no part of the world." (John 15:19) Why, under most circumstances a man wearing a woman?s wig and clothing would not only appear effeminate but also open the way to propositions for unnatural sex use by other men!?Deuteronomy 22:5.

So I would be turned on by seeing my friend in a womans wig.

    Oh. Okay.

Again, thank you Blondie. You are a regular encyclopedia of WT stuff!

    Thanks for the research Blondie!

When I was an elder, another jw asked me a similar question because he was thinking of allowing one for his kid. I got out that WT article. Funny how again it's not really a matter for personal decision, but one that is dictated by the WTS.

Excuse me? How do good JWs do their parts in the assembly dramas if they don't dress up as Egyptians, Babylonians, Philistines and other pagans? It seems they have two sets of rules...

    To quote Homer Simpson:

"....except for occasionally wearing the underwear, which we agreed, was strictly a comfort thing"

Oh shit, we're not supposed to watch the Simpsons either! Forgive me Jehovah, for comfort things.

Well, I remember a costume party in EauClaire Wisconsin. It was around 1980, so before either of those articles. The young single sisters came dressed in minimal garb as belly dancers and Pochantas-wanna-be's , but since they would arouse only natural sexual feelings I'd say that was honoring a god obsessed with sex.
