You already made an excuse that your FB account was hacked, so why not take it farther and say you deleted the account for the same reason?

Whatever you do, maintain your dignity , poise , and grace throughout this process of leaving.
That way, it can never be said that you had an attitude or were a "problem".
Show them that they are the odd ones....

You are absolutely right!! Dont allow the elders or ANYONE else to keep you where you do not want to be. The choice is yours. You get to make and own your decisions from now on.
