Just Because We Disagree With Someone Doesn't Mean They're Not Welcomed

I am seeing something interesting going on the board here. If a poster, especially, a new one says something considered unpopular around here, and another poster refutes or disagrees, some people suggest that we're not being kind or welcoming to new ones or to those that have a differing view. I don't think that this is what we're collectively trying to tell a person that doesn't share the majority viewpoint. We can disagree without being disagreeable, right???

Exactly minimus -- in fact it is healthy to disagree -- most of us have been touched by the WTBTS where disagreement is verboten -- but common good manners should prevail and we should not be disagreeable

OMG! Minimus posted a topic without a question as a title! (though he pulled it back by asking a question at the end) LOL

It's true. Some people mistake disagreeing with being unwelcoming. With such a diverse group of people from different backgrounds we are bound to disagree about practivally everything. What matters is that we still get on despite our differences.

BTW: Minimus - hope you enjoyed your visit to the fest, everyone was pleased to see you there ... I'll post the video of the cauldren roasting when I've edited it

Minimus is right. I got into a lot of arguements when I first started posting here. I didn't feel unwelcomed. On the contrary, I was happy people were at least acknowledging my posts. On some communities, "n00bies" are automatically assumed to be stupid, and people just blow them off. Sad, no?

Minimus, I agree with you 100%. You should be able to disagree/debate the subject without having to worry about things.

Why don't you go stick your religion somewhere else for a change?

How do such morons even come here?

also remember [email protected] and [email protected] .

The thing is, I don't view the above post's as having a debate, I view them as having a go at another poster because of what he chooses to believe.

As a great American patriot once said:

"I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to say it"

I believe we can all disagree--"agreeably". After what most of us have come through---why not?

We shouldn't be so intolerant of differing views. However, when persons come on a board that is mostly negative toward JW's and they try to post poitive images of the JW's, for some, it could be downright offensive. The result? Perhaps a sharply worded response oreven a nasty one.....Goes with the territory.

But then this board isn't an exjw board, its to discuss issues in conection with the jw's, and to have a discussion you need to have both sides of the arguement otherwise it turns into a 'Aren't we great and everybody else is wrong' board. Just because we disagree with someone is no need to use a sharply worded/nasty response, that would remind me of a jw's response to an apostate.

I agree Gadget. Sometimes though there is history behind the posts - in this case I think it was yet another reappearance of the Jah Christians and their amazingly subtle spam which was why it was responded to so harshly.

I do hate to see genuine new people who simply ask questions get insulted and even sworn at and we do try to take action when we see that happening.
