They were told to risk imprisonment to keep meeting and preaching because "we must obey God rather than men". While here in the U S. we voluntarily cancel meetings and preaching because "we need to be in Subjection To the superior authorities". Thoughts?

Would you be criticizing the WTS if they had taken the opposite position: "you must attend meetings, quarantine or no quarantine"? I suspect so.

I agree the WTS is worthy of all the rancor you can muster, but in this case they got it right - shut everything down, meetings, field service, everything, right now, and until further notice.

I was thinking the same thing.

I remember proudly boasting that when the government try to stop us from meeting together we'd "obey god as ruler rather than men" and it'd likely result in us going to prison etc.

I had the WTF moment as soon as I saw the leaked letter and immediately thought of the russian jdumbs. I was gutted for them. Would love to know how they are feeling now!

If I had not woken up yet , then this definitely would have blown my mind !

The difference between the Russian situation and the situation here in the USA is simple: The GB is located here in the USA so in order for them to remain in business, they, (new light) "must obey man rather than god"! Oh! and tough shit for the Russians they just live in the wrong country!

Good observation "nowwhat" It's not so much that they stop meetings and witnessing and obediently follow government direction , it's more about that they value American lives more than oversees lives in Russia!

The gb would not have the guts to direct American JW's like they did in Russia and handle a government they see as obtuse like Russia, in their view, and have to handle the authorities in America, too close to home and their comforts ,it's easy to send strangers and low people in for sacrifice.

That's a good point. Both involve the well being of the followers. Those in Malawi couldn't buy the few cents worth card because it would comprise their faith. so they suffered terribly and some died. Now Russians have the same privilege.

I guess those under threat of the virus (which I am not making fun of) can still write letters or make phone calls for their service. Makes it ok for the GB to obey the Governments in this case. Makes them look wise and compassionate. Wonder if they would have let them stay home if they didn't have their own channel to "educate" the regulars.
