Hi Eyebrow. I agree that life in Texas, for most of the inhabitants, involves a very active church life. Kinda shocked my ass to death, too. When I was comin up in Colordo, none of my NON witness friends WENT to Church, much less believed in God. Then I moved to Texas, and found out that life on Sunday does *not* involve laying around in bed til 3.. hehehe. That's okay. I went and joined me a Baptist Church. I happen to *like* hell fire and brimstone preachin. It's so much more excitin than yer every day Witness meeting. However, for some it doesn't click, so they search for different types of spirititual relief. One of those is the UU. I personally liked the UU. There is no judgmentalism there, and everyone is pretty cool with whatever stage of spirituality you are on.. or NON spirituality, as the case may be. Everyone is just there to worship the loving one, in their own place in time, with no barriers, and it's really uplifting!

I hope you find something that makes you really happy!

I think it's next to impossible for anyone to find a church that includes ALL their beliefs (unless you start your own church).... I think you should prioritize your beliefs and try finding a church that comes close to your major, important beliefs and one that you feel comfortable in with interesting meetings and a good social atmosphere. imho - good luck!

(btw - for me, either there is or there isn't a Trinity and whether we believe in it or not is no big deal... it doesn't effect anything)

I've spoken at a few UU Church services and find the folks very accepting of different beliefs. In fact they pride themselvs for not having a strict set of doctrins. Personally, I don't like the political activism of the UUs but then many people see the solution to mankinds problems through politics.

Elsewhere..very interesting that site of freethinkers...I will have to show my husband.

Hooberus...to me the Trinity does not make any sense; sure a lot of that comes from my JW training..and since the whole concept of Trinity was conjured up several hundred years after Jesus died...but then again, I dont believe the bible is any more God's word than my Fannie Farmer cookbook. Now, that does not mean I don't think there are a lot of good things in the bible...I think the 10 commandents are pretty practical and good set of rules to live by..there are some good ethics in there, sans the isrealites comming genocide everywhere.....

the church of racing....we are a real white trash nascar family, hahah! (I converted to the NASCAR faith after I married my husband...I have been cheering on Kenseth before his rookie season in Winston)..my husband used to do some bomber class racing years ago.

My daughter is still sick, and now I think I have it, so I may have to wait one more week....I don't think bringing a plague to the church would be a good way to start things off.

Do you think god is punishing me?
