Man Charged With Alicia's Murder
A 39-YEAR-OLD man has been charged with the murder of college student Alicia Eborne.
Lee Holbrook, from Plymouth, Devon, will appear before Torbay Magistrates on Monday.
A search team found the body of 18-year-old Alicia in woodland at an isolated spot near Buckland Monachorum on the edge of Dartmoor.
The discovery came nine days after the teenager went missing from her home in Corntown, Devon. She had been due to walk half a mile from the Dartmoor hamlet into nearby Cornwood to catch a bus into Plymouth.
Holbrook, who works as a bus driver, was arrested on Thursday night on suspicion of abduction and was arrested on Saturday on suspicion of murder.
The teenager's body was found in thick woods at a secluded spot near the River Tavy around 15 miles from her home.
At its height around 80 police officers were involved in the search for Alicia.
Forensic examinations were being carried out in the area where her body was found. Police continued to search an area close to Bickleigh around seven miles away.
Alicia's Jehovah's Witness parents Anthony and Joan Eborne were informed of the discovery, police said. The couple had earlier made an emotional appeal for the teenager's safe return.
Detective Chief Superintendent Jim Webster, head of CID at Devon and Cornwall police, said: "At this time our thoughts are with Alicia's family and friends. We would like to express our deep sympathy for her family and to state the distress and concern this has caused to all those who have been hunting for Alicia in the hope she would be found well."

Alicia's killer jailed for life A bus driver has been jailed for life for strangling a teenage passenger who refused to have sex with him.
Lee Holbrook, 39, appeared before Plymouth Crown Court on Monday charged with murdering 18-year-old Alicia Eborne in November last year. Holbrook, of Beacon Park Road in Plymouth, pleaded guilty and was told he must serve a minimum of 11 years and three months. Alicia's body was found on Dartmoor nine days after she disappeared.
Prosecutor Martin Meeke QC told the court Alicia was the only passenger on the bus being driven by Holbrook on 7 November 2003 when he propositioned her - having driven off his normal route. When she refused him sex he strangled her and dumped the body before driving back to his bus station in Plymouth. When he finished work, Holbrook used a Land Rover to pick up Alicia's body and drive it to woods where he covered it with leaves. Mr Meeke said Holbrook later told police: "I have murdered her. It was nothing premeditated. It was just an opportunity. She was on my bus."
When Alicia, from Corntown, near Ivybridge, did not attend classes at Plymouth College of Further Education and failed to turn up for her part-time job at a patisserie, a massive police search was launched. The teenager's body was found on 16 November hidden in woods near the village of Buckland Monachorum, about 15 miles from her home. Sentencing Holbrook, Judge William Taylor said: "This was, in my judgment, the waste of a young, innocent life, a life taken by you in lust and probably in panic." The judge told Holbrook the fact that Alicia was in his care and thought herself safe on the bus, the sexual motive and the fact that he concealed the body twice were, in his judgment, aggravating features. The judge recommended Holbrook should serve a minimum of 11 years three months but told him: "You will not be released until the authorities are satisfied you pose no threat or danger to anyone in the future."
After the case Alicia's parents Anthony and Joan, exressed their disappointment at the sentence. They said in a statement: "This reprehensible crime has destroyed the joy and happiness within our family. "We sincerely believe and hope this reprobate should never be allowed into society again to cause this degree of pain and suffering to another family. Alicia was fun, and brought laughter and sparkle to our family home. Her loss has left us broken hearted. She is still a very much loved daughter and sister who is desperately missed by us all."

I agree with the parents that 11 years and 3 months is far too lenient. How can that compensate for the life of this young woman? He should get life.
