Butter on ALL sandwiches first
THEN
Mayo if there is tomato or other vegetable
Mustard if it is just meat - honey mustard preferably
Miracle Whip!
Did somebody bring out the bong? The munchies can be a disturbing thing eh!
Mayo, Miracle Whip, or Mustard on sandwiches.
Butter is for popcorn, mashed potatoes, biscuits and rolls.
I grew up were every sandwich was buttered, yuck. I don't like butter unless it is melted. I prefer mustard. Tuna gets mayo. BLT mayo.
Real butter (not that low-fat-no-calories-shit) on cheese, salmon and salami
Mayo on tuna and egg
I don't like ham, but it would go well with butter and mayo.

I bet it was Matty who said the butter too.....
In the UK, every sandwich I've seen has butter spread on the bread first, then the meat or whatever on top of that. If you have mayo, mustard, jam or whatever else on too then this would go on as a dressing but the butter would be there to hold the sandwich together. Personally, the taste of butter makes me feel sick so I always have to ask them to leave it out or they would automatically put it in.
Butter
However a sandwich with only either works..
butter when used with cheese or sweet.
mayo (and ketchup) with al kinds of meat or fish and or egs combined with lettuce, cucumber, tomatoes, apple.
in fact this is my favorite (daily) sandwich.
My guess it is butter for Matty as well.
