Below is an email from Webshots. Does this prove the WT is surfing looking for copyright violations?

Apparently they don't understand that parody and or satire is not an infringment of copywrite laws...

    Maybe you can educate them?

In the USA, PARODY is a protected form of speech.

Explain to your ISP that these are parodies, not intended to be mistaken for the real thing. Remove any real images.

And I think this case is applicable:

    Leibovitz v. Paramount Pictures Corporation
Paramount did a teaser ad for the film, ?Naked Gun: The Final Insult 33 1/3.? The ad spoofed a 1991 cover of Vanity Fair, which featured a photo of a pregnant, nude Demi Moore. Paramount got another model, who was also pregnant, to pose nude. The head of Leslie Nielsen, the star of the film, was superimposed onto the body of the model. A federal district court and the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals held that the parody ad was a fair use.

This policy is designed to protect you us from claims for copyright and/or publicity rights infringements that could result in monetary damages to you us.

The WTBTS Legal Department knows they couldn't probably squeeze a dime from you. So they go after the most likely target - the host IP. They are not exJWs, and, as a profit-making venture, do not want to get involved in legal issues over copyright, whether the law protects you or not. They are in the business to make money, not to take a stand in legal issues that do not directly concern them. Once the WTBTS threatens them, not you, it becomes their concern. This is why those files were removed. They are within their legal right to do so.
