I ask this question for the following reason. I was sitting at the kingdom hall thinking about all the rules, procedures, policies, teachings that each member MUST follow ......or else!
At the watchtower study we are reminded of the paradise earth where we will all be the same and happy. That should be the way I personally feel right now. But thinking of the above reduces that joy that I SHOULD have.

It used to be about Love, and Brotherhood, and Mercy.
Now its only about, dont touch your penis or vagina, dont look at porn, dont watch vampire movies or zombie movies.

Years ago talks and literature was about a in depth study of the scriptures and bible prophecy. Whether the prophecies were correct or wrong is beside the point. It was a bible based religion. Today all that is pushed is a life style that must be followed.
Yes, some R&F I know go out less and less in the ministry. Some have even lost or have no desire to even get ready to go out--although way the cart witnessing is conducted plus pointing folks to jw.org is supposed to be no-brainer easy!
I'm sure as we here on the Forum all know that the Borg is a complete letdown; and since the internet with TTATT revealing what they are all about, the R&F who are PIMO, are also becoming disenchanted with this corporation, if not now anyways. Goody!
Very true Prefect. Years ago meetings were focussed on the positive, the upbuilding, the application and study of really quite deep things which , whether true or not in hindsight, did leave you well fed after. In those days I feel people at the hall really did want to understand and make sense of things. These days I see those who still attend meetings bearing miserable faces and disillusion. I know of two or three widowed sisters who are struggling to understand why the system is still here...when they at one time firmly believed that they would see the new system as a couple...so sad. Youngsters too, seem trapped in a family cult not of their choosing, with no way out without suffering isolation.

We have family members in their 60's and 70's who feel the same way. They still think Jah's going to fix it all. They can't give that up. Every bad thing is Satan. They are getting older and struggling physically and are struggling financially. Some gave up marriage, children, education and any decent paying job for Jah. Their paradise is fading fast. They continue to do bare minimum for "Jehovah" and you can see the discouragement all over their faces. It is sad.
They are victims of Watchtower just like we were. But we also had our own brain, but chose to give it over completely to Watchtower. What we should have done is checked independently, if what we were being told was true. But many of us including me, liked the little bubble we were in.
Have they taken the joy out of it? I don't recall any joy being their at all, they're selling the same bullshit, just different new light and a kinda different angle now.
I would strongly suggest that nostalgia isn't the way to go. I do understand that the GB 2.0 is even more cold than the original version, but it wasn't a cake walk either. You still had no freedom of thought or speech, and had to fake it to make it at all if you had a mind of your own.
Joy was never something any version of the Governing Body was about imo. And yes, it's even worse now, but it was never good before.
