I am in UK, and often see them out with their carts. Not once have I seen anyone remotely interested as they walk by. Once there was an old friend of mine who is an elder with a sister, and he looked so miserable His whole body language was saying I really dont want to be here. I called over to him to say hi, and in fact I had to call him a second time before he eventually woke up from his little world and said a reluctant hi back to me.

Most times when I see the JWs with their carts they are playing with their phones, so not even looking at passing people.

There is a cart by a local mcdonalds that is attached to a gas station on a super busy road near a bus stop. In SE Houston. No one gets out of their cars there, and it doesn't even seem a safe place for buses to stop, but they do. Its not the kind of place to slow down and there is no where to park near where they are as the drive through inhibits car traffic AND foot traffic other than the bus riders. There are usually two carts and no one talks to them. Why would they?

Then there is the two ladies sitting on a bench in NOLA by the big river excursion boats. Not a cart in sight, not a book, not a bookbag. (is that a rule?) but they had the WT ;propped up on their laps while they gossiped.

I did have two visits in two weeks from the locals. Must be a big shot visiting or something. They had nothing to say, it was sad. Neither did I, which might be sadder.

I see them less and less in my town these days although they were there yesterday as I drove by, the next much bigger town where I go most weeks I never see the carts there at all, I pass an underground station every single morning and never see a cart there in the week but I saw them there last Sunday the least busiest day of the week! how insane is that!

Athy - To which the older JW said printing costs forced them to reduce the size of their magazines.

***Proclaimers book (1993) jv chap. 21 p. 340 How Is It All Financed? ***As early as the second issue of the WatchTower,in August 1879, Brother Russell stated: “‘Zion’s Watch Tower’ has, we believe, JEHOVAH for its backer, and while this is the case it will never beg nor petition men for support. When He who says: ‘All the gold and silver of the mountains are mine,’ fails to provide necessary funds, we will understand it to be time to suspend the publication.”

Funny how if you ask a jw about the carts you get a completely different story (at least I did). My SIL told me about a year ago how happy she was that jah blessed them with the carts and how much she loves using them in fs. She said she is reaching so many more people than she was in the door to door work and that so many interested ones approach her throughout the day. This is the same SIL that also told me that those that leave/retire from bethel are taken care of financially by the org for the rest of their lives. She's really quite sweet though and I think she just sees what she wants to see.

So, pointing to the other JW literature trolley only thirty feet away, I said: "Looks like you have some competition."
To which the JW lady explained: "They have Spanish literature. We also have Spanish literature, so please take what you like."

Classic, and their response was spoken like the true sales people they are.

JW's will tell you advertise, advertise. For over 100 years you have advertised and people still don't know what the hell you are about. The problem, they are not sure what they are advertising. They pray that know one ask any questions, if so they are in deep sh---t..... Please don't ask me about the overlapping generation, 1914 or 1975 I only know that Jehovah 's Witnesses are the true religion and if you don't believe me ask our GB....

visited a couple more stores, then stopped at a thrift store that has a huge selection of books. I spent over an hour there, so It was 11:30 AM when I left the store and stopped and visited the first JW literature trolley

I've seen old discontinued JW literature in thrift stores and rummage sales. It would have been comical if you'd have found one of them, such as the "truth" book while you were browsing, purchased it and gave it back to them and pointed out the print date and then saying something like "Seems you folks have been saying the end is near since 1968".
