What would we all do if the watchtower collapsed tomorrow ?

    Oh, yeah, that'd happen, too.

    Wouldn't be very many, though, I suspect.

    Remember, the main reason JWs stay in is that they're "Captives of a Concept" - that the WTS is God's Earthly Organization. The collapse of the WTS would, however, be rather elegant proof that that's demonstrably not the case (after all, God wouldn't allow his Earthly Organization to fall victim to the machinations of "Satan's World" now, would he?)... and if the WTS ain't "God's Earthly Organization", no one is.

    Good luck "re-organising and unifing under another flag" and convincing anyone with half a brain that this new-and-improved phoenix-from-the-ashes-wannabe is any kind of improvement or successor.

    And even if they did, so what?

    Personally, I could give a rat's ass what the rabid hard-core (ex-)Watchtowerite loyalists would do. It's soft-cores, captive still-in TTATTers, and fence-sitters (who comprise a majority, I suspect) who'd be finally set free once and for all, and that's what would matter.

    I would like nothing more than to see the rug pulled out from under them in regard to their religion. Watch as some of them flounder because they are too damn lazy to do their own thinking. Others would have problems because they no longer have any blind to ruin lives under.

    Come to think of it, I would like to see the rug pulled out from under the whole xian platform. Judaism and Islam as well. None of those religions deserve to exist, and neither do the ones they corrupted. Let them return to their original pagan religions.

    It would no longer impact our daily lives. We would have some really devastated family members. Most on my spouses side are all Uber. They wouldn't know what to do without WT. No friends (non jw), no jobs and probably not a penny to their name. If WT went away, so would the titles, they would just die!

    I would call a few smug Elders I know, and ask them for that free bible study now.

    As far as the world is concerned, it would be a huge yawn with "Next" written on it. Apart from those affected by some aspect of its influence, jw org is actually an incredibly small group viewed by many of those who know it as "whacky".

    It would catch the attention of the mainstream Christian press, sure.

    I'd also expect that, among active "hard core" JWs, it would be a significantly disturbing, even distressing occurrence that would spur them into a big "search" for the "truth".

    To them it will be like people rescued from abuse backgrounds: If they are not equipped with the skills and the means to remain "free", they will simply gravitate to some other established group or, if enough hard core members gather together, they could strat up a whole new movement.

    Look what happened when Herbert Armstrong's "Plain Truth" organization imploded a couple of decades ago. Enough followers wre able to sniff over the detritus and ressurect it as a more mainstream organization and, praise the Lord! Herbert Armstrong's words were once again heralded far and wide.

    Some weeds are impervious to the most advanced herbicides. I'd bet a dollar to one hundred, Jw.org, in one form or another, is one of 'em.

    My parents would just assume it was the Great Tribulation and the work would be driven underground. They would find like-minded people and meet together in their homes.

    Just because the organization collapsed wouldn't mean they would give up their faith.

    Yup.

    The guys at the top aren't the only ones who would have nothing - who would be nothing - without the Org.
