Black is essential at funerals; it's very slimming.

The biggest reason JW's don't wear black at a funeral is because unlike the awful people in the world, they don't want to appear to be too glum about the death of the loved one since they have the belief that they'll be resurrected any day now. How would it look to go from door to door saying that the end is near and then being all grief stricken, upset and wearing black just because someone you cared about died.

The reality today is that people show up in jeans, short pants and flip flops. There is seldom any fixed dress code these days. Witnesses tend to have nice suits etc so they are covered but non witnesses seem to dress in a way that comes across very disrespectful.

I have been to a couple of "worldly" funerals and most people just wear everyday smart casual clothing ,nothing black to be seen.

However going back a few decades especially in Europe and of Italian descent black was probably the norm.

Could just be that the deceased wanted everyone to show up in something colorful?

Or did you know that wearing black at funerals was originally a ruse to escape the attention of evil spirits said to be lurking on such occasions?

Watchtower: don't buy into the ridiculous idea that the color of your clothing may attract evil spirits. Haha what silly stuff people believe! Rofl

Also Watchower: caution! The home you live in, the gifts you received, the second hand stuff you bought, the music you listen to and the movies you watch may attract evil spirits that are lurking for such an occasion!

They are just so silly and they contradict themselves so often it's hard to keep track of.

Whatever it's origins wearing black , which is still mostly the norm with church funerals , is just considered a sign of mourning and respect .

What really gets me is that JWs tell me that Jews don't say the name of God because of superstition , which l refute , but then they don't wear black because of superstition .

    Go figure , oh you can't !

    THINKERBELLE:

Of course you should wear black. If not, navy blue or any dark color if you are not in the position financially to go out and buy a new outfit. The JW religion is absurd in its attempts to be different just for the sake of being different.

Wakes and funerals are somber occasions. It’s a time for mourning.

I have never heard of that - JWs usually wear black at funerals. Maybe it is just a local custom.

For the ladies a bright red skin tight spaghetti strapped mini cocktail dress with stilettos...and for the gents nice close fit suit preferably in a pastel avant garde print....with open collar lovely purple shirt and a few thick gold chains. And shades. Yes don't forget the shades...and no socks please. And while the elder drone mumbles on about the deceased paradise resurrection yawn much.....and text those missing to keep them updated on your whereabouts.

The Chinese people wear white to funerals.

Traditionally, white clothing is symbolic of the dead, while red is not usually worn, as it is traditionally the symbolic colour of happiness worn at Chinese weddings.
