Yes it was written about many times by the WTS., what is more culpable toward the corruption of the WTS is that the 6000 year of mankind's existence was used twice before, once in the early 1900's , 1941 and again in the late 1960's by same man Fred Franz, the leading bible scholar for the WTS.
Read this article from the Awake and notice the date at the bottom left.
Most of the vast circulation and distribution of the WTS's publications has been accomplished through fear mongering charlatanism.
The WTS has been a organization of commercialized false prophesying and false doctrines, that even went against bible Scripture regarding false prophesying or stetting dates upon god's own sacred time admonished by Jesus himself.
The 1966 book, Life Everlasting -- In Freedom of the Sons of God -- introduced 1975 as the 6000th year since Adam's creation and talked about how that would be "an appropriate time for God to act" in bringing about his sabbath rest, i.e. the new system.
After that, the publications talked about it all the time.
Typical was the August 15, 1968 Watchtower article entitled, "Why Are You Looking Forward to 1975?"
The first paragraph read: "WHAT about all this talk concerning the year 1975? Lively discussions, some based on speculation, have burst into flame during recent months among serious students of the Bible. Their interest has been kindled by the belief that 1975 will mark the end of 6,000 years of human history since Adam’s creation. The nearness of such an important date indeed fires the imagination and presents unlimited possibilities for discussion."
Note the way the WT worded this -- as if they were third parties watching all this rather than the ones that kept fueling all the speculation.
There's a few million (well OK, several dozen) here:
See the quotes from the JWfacts link in the previous post.
The question is not what was 'explicitly written', but what was meant?
If you read all articles about 1975, and understand the mindset of the times, it is clear that the meaning was the 1000 years would begin about 1975. At the time, every JW received that message that was being given just as it was meant.
To say, "Well, it wasn't explicitly stated" is just gaslighting.
Besides some of it was pretty explicit.
'Yes, the end of this system is so very near! Is that no reason to increase our activity?....Reports are heard of brothers selling their homes and property and planning to finish out the rest of their days in this old system of things in the pioneer service. Certainly this is a fine way to spend the short time remaining before the wicked world's end.'
Watchtower, 1/7/1974, p 397:
'It also tells us that this millennium must be preceded immediately by the most destructive war in all human history. We can now see the political rulers...being gathered...for that War of all wars....'
The chart on the video Finkelstein posted says it all:
Creation... the Flood... the Exodus... Destruction of Jerusalem... Jesus' baptism... 1914 as the start of the end times... then 1975.
What message were JWs supposed to get other than that 1975 would be the endpoint of the "old system"?
The articles are pretty explicit. They didn't say EXACTLY what people were led to believe, but they were definitely enough to lead people there, then they finished it off with public speeches about the part that wasn't spelled out 100%.
