After seeing a Watchtower representative paste the same thing over and over, about jw.org being available in 850 languages...

We all know how the Watchtower loves to boast about the number of languages it translates into.

    What are the facts?

I did a little Google search...

According to it's website jw.org, it translates it's literature into 750 languages,... the Watchtower and Awake! magazines... 190 and 80, respectively.

It's translation of the Bible, NWT, 128.

Faith Comes By Hearing has translated the Bible into 1,084 languages, and counting...

Interesting, thanks. Facts can hurt, right?

It's interesting to see they've managed to translate their *website* into 800+ languages (a far greater number than actual written languages that exist), their own literature in 190 but their Bible in only 128.

They just count the same languages multiple times. They count "sign language" and various dialects as "translated website in this language" even though the text doesn't vary.

Checking their website in an 'accessibility' test, they are actually doing very poor as far as structured access for blind and other disabled people.

    Thank you.

Yes, I think it's a handy little few facts to have... Could plant a seed, unlock a door, help someone start asking questions and doing their own research...

And i didnt know about the difference between the number of written and spoken languages... That would explain why faith comes by hearing, have 10 times the amount of Bible translations, since it is primarily about audio Bibles

That's interesting about their counting method...

I'm sure that somewhere in deep back country of Africa, there is a native in a poor village trying to rub two sticks together to make a fire. This person certainly needs that website translated into his native language.

"The United Bible Societies’ Scripture Language Report, the only authoritative guide to the annual progress of worldwide Bible translation, records the progress made by United Bible Societies and other Bible translation agencies every year. The figures show that the complete Bible has now been translated into 475 languages and the New Testament into 1,240."

However many languages the JW org translate their message into, their aim is to bamboozle, lure and recruit, never to help people. Their sole interest is to press their religious racket onto the most uneducated and vulnerable people of the Earth.

    Yes redvip2000 exactly!

@Half banana: The Bible has been translated in 1240 languages, yet many of those languages no longer exist or are transcriptions of spoken languages (how a LOT of languages actually got their script). Some think the Voynich manuscript is similarly someone attempting to write down a dead spoken-only language.

More than half of the languages in the world are unwritten and more than half of all languages are only spoken by a small group of people and will probably die. That doesn't mean those people don't understand other languages, Papua New Guinea for example has ~800 different languages on the islands.

I actually just checked, they claim 890 languages on their website, the number of languages that "has web content" for jw.org is 650, 155 languages have "just downloads" and sign language is "92". I didn't do a deep dive in the languages themselves but many I've already seen are just variations.

It is funny that they will boost about certain things like this and upon closer inspection, the thing they were boosting about ends up being a lie[ability]

IE; Ask active JWs about fruits and hear about restoring Gods true name and love in their cong.

Look closely and see that there is nothing that they give the world.

Restoring God's name has done what in particular? Anything? Bueller, Bueller?
