well, I dont know about your area, but it seems there is a need for elders in the areas I was familiar with,

which says to me, that there are men who are smart enough to not allow themselves to be sucked into sacrificing employment and family to slave for the org.

    so there's hope, lol.

of the ones [elders] i was familiar with,

they were 'self employed' owners of businesses, were independently wealthy enough, or retired, and had a flexible schedule, lol. of course, they were in control of everything its a business.

lets not judge all those former elders now on the site as being jerks, lol, they left, that says something.

The first time I went to a meeting at my local KH, I thought I stepped into a meeting for The Loyal Order of Water Buffaloes.

Former elder here, have to disagree with the premise of the OP. Its easy to take shots at the supposed authority figures of the cult but in the end they are just guys. Some are jerks some are good guys, they are just people. I was never a loser or in any what you described. I made 6 figures this year, have always been a driven and dedicated guy, fairly intelligent (certainly not a dummy) and at the very least my kids and dog would disagree that i was ever a waste of space. On a good day a few others may stick up for me as well...

My only point being, painting all of any one group with a broad brush is a bad idea, be it all of a race, all of a gender or even all of a religion.

I knew a lot of elders that are nice people. My bf was an elder. Having a thread calling them losers and starting a sentence with, "MOST of them are wasted space" is offensive and rude.

You really just started an elder bashing thread on a forum with a bunch of former elders on it? Really???

Ah morph. You are here though awake, that alone completely disqualifies you from this negative category lol. No doubt there is a variety if elders. And I think some regions might be worse than others. I think there are three kinds of elders. Those that eventually wake up. Those that could but hang on to the dream and the rest. "The rest" i feel might be a large number though than the other two. They are not like you my Thor worshipping friend. They are incapable of waking.

Lets clarify. If they want to STRICTLY obey ALL the directions from the GB, then there is a likelihood that they will become nosey, judgemental and critical as they demand more and more loyalty to the society:

(eg how many hours did you spend in service? how many times did you answer at the meetings? do you pre-study your material? do you have a family study? do you promote or condemn higher education? etc etc)

BUT, if they are imitators of Christ, then they will be inclined to be kind and mild, supportive and genuine.

I have always found most halls are usually controlled by one or two narcissistic bullies who surround with half retarded yes men. Elders even if well meaning are usually dipshits but in the end it doesn't matter because they all answer to a higher evil power.

I know, a lot of KH's are run by narcissistic bullies who are in love with themselves. But, I do know that some KH's are run by some of the most mild-mannered, good-hearted, down-to-earth people. Some Elders are really nice guys. I felt bad, really bad for the nice ''Elders'' in a way when I began fading.

Hence the user name, WAS AN ELDER. That never was me. I wanted to do what is right and for that I was hated. Its ironic really.

    CRAZYGUY:

I'm sure your post hurt some ex-elders feelings!

Generally speaking, the elders I met were on the ball and fairly successful in their lives. Maybe once in a while one here and there came close to your description.

What I held against them was that they were "company" men. I also couldn't stand their attitudes towards single women. I wasn't there to be bothered by them.

Some of them were nervy enough to try and enlist single women to do favors for older women that the elders felt were "special" because they had them over for dinner frequently. Meanwhile, these elders couldn't be bothered helping single women.

These elders would overstep boundaries with nosy and inappropriate questions that they thought they could get away with with a single woman. It was insulting, really....I learned never to trust them and would never let them engage me in conversation because my business was NONE of their business. They didn't like that.
