Scully, that's a good analysize. I like it.

    Gumby, LMAO @crying testicels

Copsec, lol, I love the songs even (or esp. ?) the long ones

One_Ugly_Time, so two outta three ain't bad at all, eh? I agree tho, the needing part is relative. It's the love part that I find yto be necesarry for a relationship.

    BluesBorther, hmmm, interesting.

    Rekless, got his email address?

SS, you think?? In a freudian way it might I suppose..

    Expatbrit, I totally agree.

Gadget, I find that as plausible a reasoning as Skully's...

    Thanx all, for your thoughts.

Bottom line: sometimes you have to be realistic about what you want out of a relationship. He is honest with her and telling her what he needs/wants. If she isn't in the same place emotionally, she has the clear choice to dump him. Staying in that relationship when it makes you feel hollow, can't give YOU what YOU need, or makes you depressed or codependent, is a choice too. Most times the person with feelings such as this songwriter expressed, are not honest enough to admit it and the other person has to come to the realization slowly over a long period of time. In the end they both have to make this decision.

Sometimes lyrics, or prose, or literature, makes these types of points by leading you to the conclusion and letting you make them by yourself. In my mind these are the best writers.

Meatloaf was the only person able to sing Jim's lyrics.

Didn't Jim Steinman write for Bonnie Tyler too? She sang his lyrics pretty well too.

Angharad hates me singing meatloaf songs 'cause she likes them and I intentionally merge all the songs into one (they actually go quite well, tunes as well):

"Like a bat out of hell I'm a real dead ringer for love"

"I know everything about you baby, you're everything I'm dreaming of ... 'cause like a bat out of hell I'm a real dead ringer for love"

    I want you
    I need you
But there ain't no way I'm ever gonna love you
    Now don't be sad
'Cause two out of three ain't bad

Better to be honest sometimes than start something you can't finish..so a good time is better than none at all perhaps...

Baby we can talk all night
But that ain't getting us nowhere

i never thought i'd log on to jwd and find u guys discussing my fav singrer. I met Meat Loaf and got a pic with him at a meet and greet. he is a great person, and btw, at a recent concert , passsed out, such is the intensity of his songs. He was taken to hopsital where a undiagnosed heart problem was found and they did surgery. he is apparently recovering well.

I've got just about everything he has ever done, and love all is songs. 2 our of 3 is just about a guy who can't get over his first love and is trapped in an unhealthy rlationship. Scully, that was great. U should wirite for his fan newsletter. One of my favs is "Salior to a siren" also, "I'm gonna love for the both of us" and "I'll kill u if u don't come back". Jim steinman is a wild guy, writing some of the most epic love songs i've ever heard. (Bat out of hell is a love song along the same lines of "tell Laura I love her") Jim has written for several artists, but Meat has done most of his songs. Bonnie has sung several, who does not remeber "total eclipse of the heart"-jim wrote that little diddy. Air Supply-dating myself here, did "making love out of nothing at all", and celine dion did one song, and last but not least is Andrew Llyod Webber, his musical Whistle down the wind" and the musical "Tanz Der vampire" by Roman Plysyensky(sp). Jim is a very talented guy, and so is Meat.

She wants him to love her.

    He doesn't love her.

She tells him to hit the road.

He likes her company. He likes the sex. He needs her companionship. He thinks he needs the sex. He's not in the mood to go looking for the two elsewhere.

The good news is that his conscience won't allow him to lie to her and tell her he loves her. So at the risk of losing the relationship he tells her the truth. Now she is free to stick around or to move on with life and find someone who wants, needs and loves her.

Like someone mentioned: this is more like real life. You either fall in love with someone or you don't. You can't make yourself love someone you don't. You might care about them and enjoy their friendship and company but it's not the same as love.

I don't think the songwriter is being a creep here. I think if he were a creep, he'd lie and tell the lady he loved her so she'd keep giving him what he wanted. But he's been through the same thing in the past. He understands the decent and fair thing to do is to tell the truth: I don't love you.
