RUSSELL CROWE Be still my heart. I saw Gladiator and fell in love. Finally a man who looks like a man. He is not one of these skinny actors that only eat salad. This is a meat and potato guy. I bet when he gives you a hug, you feel hugged. I love old ships, and rugged men. Cant wait until my daughter takes me. YUM Sandi

Not a bad film, not a great film, but a very good-looking popcorn movie which I enjoyed. The special effects and realism were top notch. I wonder how they did the storm sequence because it really looked 100 percent realistic. Directed by Peter Weir who has done some great work such as "Witness," "Fearless," "The Year of Living Dangerously," and "The Truman Show" and many other great pieces of cinema.

Is it about the noble English defeating them goddamned Yankees again?

    Englishman.

Bad man, you very bad man

Elsewhere you really didn't like it? I loved it even though it wasn't a chick flick.

    I know, I'm sorry.

I know a lot of you liked it a lot... The acting, directing, and special effects were all great. I guess it was the whole Moby Dick rip-off that did it for me. They might as well have called Dr. Stephen Maturin (Paul Bettany) Ishmael.

Well don't apologize for not liking it. I never made the Moby Dick connection. I liked how they portrayed the crew. Officers that were kids, older men as hands. Very interesting dynamics.

Wait a second, those noble Englishmen used children to fight?

Well it was just against the French, might as well taken women.

I think it was mostly digital .... the credits at the end of the movie seem to suggest it. I think there's been a pretty good evolution of digital realism of stormy sea scenes (Perfect Storm > Star Wars Attack of the Clones > Master & Commander). I think it looked a little fake in Perfect Storm but it is almost flawless in this movie.

I don't think it was a Moby Dick rip-off at all. It was based on the series of books called Master and Commander(can't remember the author).

I enjoyed this movie very much. The action sequences were very good, special effects excellent. I was pleasantly surprised that this wasn't just "another action movie". There was actually a story behind the characters. While I was glad to see some character development, in my opinion that's where the movie lost some of it's punch. It took me awhile to really become involved with the characters and feel like I was onboard with these people. Once I became wrapped up in it, it sailed along effortlessly, but getting to that point was a little sluggish. I give it 3 stars out of 5.

I have read many of the books, excellent adventures.... looking forward to the film.

Whilst most of it is fighting the french, they do get to take a few pot shots at the Americans as well in some books which is a bonus. <g>.
