''If you're up for a sensible discussion, sure''

Good luck with that. You do realize who you're dealing with, yes?

Well this is fundamentally not true it’s the South Pole that has empty space underneath it

No matter where you stand on earth, there is the earth under the sky.

    • So the sun stood still and the moon did not move”

    • It could be argued that the sun does not move in relation to the earth but if you read carefully, the verse only says the moon did not move. There is poetic argument in relation to the sun.
Jehovah does everything he pleases to do In heaven and on earth, in the seas and all the depths.”
    • A flying heavier than air plane seems to be a miracle so do fruit flies and walking on water, resurrections, parting the red sea. What would falsify the Bible though would be false stories such as atlas holding up the earth when the earth is actually floating in space.

The Sun standing still is exactly the same as the Sun not moving. I dont think there is any room for poetic licence in that statement.

Heres a confirmed false statement from the bible:

Gen 1:11-13: God creates vegetation on the third day.

Gen 1:14-19 God creates the Sun, along with the moon and stars on the fourth day.

As far as Im aware, vegetation generally doesnt grow and reproduce very well without the Sun.

Nic, all the miracles in the Bible are impossible from a scientific point of view. This is why they are called miracles, duh.

Raising people from the dead, walking on water, turning water into wine. Scientifically impossible, otherwise they wouldn’t be called miracles.

Im agnostic so won’t commit to if the universe started by chance or by design. If it was by design then the designer could easily make miracles happen but anyway this is off the point of this thread.

the point of this thread is - are there any examples of Bible writers knowing things that humans could not have known at the time?

JWs use many examples like the shape of the earth, DNA ie you saw even the embryo of me, in your book it many parts were down in writing

and bacterial hygiene the Israelites had to burry the excrement outside the camp. At a time when humans didn’t know about bacteria and infection.

but all these things are subjective not conclusive. These could have been men writing and got lucky with their guesses.

JWs say how could they know about the earth being a circle hanging on nothing? But this is exactly what humans thought at the time, they thought it was a flat circle hanging on nothing

    Seem.

It's a bit of a stretch to conclude that their word for 'circle' was used because they didn't have a word available that described a sphere or a ball. Can you think of any language that doesn't have different words to describe disks and balls?

How many languages do you know of that don't have words that distinguish a ball from a disk, or sphere from a circle?

There something very weird about the software used by this forum. I hope I just happened to try to post when it was having a bad day.

Then the answer is a simple 'no'.

THAT is the point, they DID have a suitable word for a Ball shape in Hebrew, the Writer chose not to use it, because he envisaged the Earth as shown in my previous Post ! He used the word for circle , which if I recall was also used for a platter.

Which is why it is disingenuous, and totally inaccurate for the JW 's to claim they knew the real shape of the Earth !

You can search the old Threads on this if you type in "A Sphere is not a Circle ", the first guy to mention this actually used that as his username IIRC.
