"Jehovah’s Witnesses do not celebrate birthdays because we (the G.B.) believe that such celebrations displease God."

    https://www.jw.org/en/jehovahs-witnesses/faq/birthdays/

Commemorating the birth of a child or loved one will soon be made a "matter of conscience" - thanks to "prayerful consideration" by the Guardians of Doctrine (G.O.D.S.) at Warwick, N.Y.

    Oh joy! 😄

    Birthdays

    Mothers Day

    Fathers Day

    Valentines day

It will be a tough pill to swallow for old timers that sacrificed many relationships by not partaking in these customs.

Maybe that’s why they are doing the slow rollout of changes

I think they have already decided on a slew of changes, and are just releasing them one at a time. I would say most of the holiday things are on the list; it's hard to say when they will stop. Probably anything without a clear and specific scriptural reason is on the table.

    Proberly true.

They used to claim that putting away birthdays, Christmas, the cross and so on were all part of the Jesus-sanctioned reforms that removed Babylonish practices from God’s people during Rutherford’s presidency. I wonder if they’ll revise that concept or scrap it altogether.

By allowing practices they formerly banned but before that allowed the Jehovah’s Witness leadership are admitting they were wrong for the past 100 years.

Most jws don’t know the real history of the organization and will chalk up these facts as apostate lies

    Damn, I remember that expression.

When was the last time they used it?

I keep hearing birthdays will soon be allowed.

I cant see any evidence to corroborate this or support thie.

    Where is it coming from??

It’s perhaps just an inference from the other changes that have been made rather than a specific rumour.

The same principles Lett (correctly) used to make toasting a conscience matter can be used for birthdays and many other customs JW's have outlawed.

The basic problem with JW's is the high control of the GB and the fact that unquestionable allegiance is required or one will be branded 'apostate'. So, as with this toasting issue, followers are trained to be told how to act instead of recognizing Christian freedom (Gal. 1), and make decisions based on love, not a long list of rules.
