Hi everyone.
I have to ask this one. If religion is, as Marx said, the opium of the people, do the Borg just have theirs at a better grade than most religions? Is that why it is so hard for people to "kick the habit"? Is that why we feel so strongly about the Borg - reformed druggies being the most outspoken and all that?

Loki, it isn't just the WTS that people have problems throwing off ... it is any totalitarian type regime. This type of religion is truly detrimental to the individual's ability to become what they can be.

A belief that leaves you free to discover your full potential and allows you to think things through for yourself is the healthiest place to be. Many don't realize that even Christianity was originally like that ..... the only precepts given by Jesus were to love God with your whole heart, mind and body and love your neighbour as yourself. One didn't have t o recite doctrine or follow certain set rules, only to love our brethren to the degree that we would not do anything that would hurt them.

I did put this in as a flip sort of topic that came to me in the midst of trying to decide about whether or not to take something for my headache. However, you are right, there is a very serious side to it, isn’t there?
I had a lot of trouble when I left, lots of questions about who I really am, and where do I want to go. I didn’t have many decision-making skills; all that sort of thing was previously taken care of for me. It was a while ago now, and I guess I have become a bit more mellow about it now, but your reply reminded me. Thanks

I think that we are really all drunk with the freedom of being out of the control of the Borg

Hi and welcome Loki,
Good analogy. Yeah, JWs are under a highly addictive form
of idealogy whereas other religious folks are under
soft-drugs (like weed) ideologies. Pot-heads don't rob
and kill their
family and friends to support their habit, right? Crack-heads
do. Jws are taught to sacrifice all this for their religion.
So maybe religion should be used like drugs, only to solve
certain problems and only in moderation.
