If science made us eternal, and we could control everything on earth as if we were in the New System, would humanity still need a higher intelligence or God to worship? In other words, is God only a provider?
Can humanity live happily without God?

Interesting question!
Personally no I don't think God becomes unnecessary as it is within human nature to want to be grateful for happiness and joy. I read somewhere that that is why religion started, because ppl wanted to give thanks.
I am not however commenting on whether I believe God exists at all :)

If you mean strictly "God," in the monotheistic sense, the fact is most humans do live without it (or Him) all right -- probably no more and no less happy than the theists.
On the other hand, I think we can hardly dispense with some kind of "spirituality" or "philosophy" -- that is, a way to understand yourself and your life, as well as your relationship to the world and to the people around you. Maybe it's always related to "happiness", inasmuch as it is a way of finding some new kind of happiness when you're not happy? I wonder.

Perhaps, but I think the concept of "god(s)" more likely started as a result of natural disasters such as drought, earthquakes, hurricanes, etc. Then some a$$hole figured maybe these things were a result of human behaviour, started coming up with rules and promptly discovered CONTROL . The rest is history.

You could well be right, I hadn't thought about that. Hmm human behaviour having an influence on natural disasters, it's a big jump to make I guess (well it would have been back then anyway). Interesting :)

As there has never been a "pure" political system, (ie, democracy, autocracy, etc.) there has never been or likely will be a society that is purely secular. My inclination is to say that attempts to forge a secular society such as socialism or communism have proven to be failures, but then they never achieved their "ideal state". Therefor it seems that it would not be possible to test your hypothesis unless all of humanity was purely secular.
So far humanity seems to be able to balance, albeit precariously, the various forms of governments without anialation, but then we have a long way to go before full reconciliation.

Good point. Some book or something i read also postulated this scenario. The assholes were the shaman and the tribal chief.
