"One drop of poison in a glass of water"

Time to revive this well known, and often used JW illustration!

"If you are in desperate need of a drink of water, and the glass in front of you is 99% clean, but contains just 1% poison, would you drink it??"

How often we heard this trotted out from the platform.

Recently though, I have heard many examples of still-in JWs sharing their observations about things that don't seem quite right with the current activities, direction and culture of the organization. They share comments with ones who are fading or who have left about things that trouble them; EVEN observing the SERIOUS issues brought up by the mishandling of sex abuse cases worldwide.

Then such ones often fall back on tired apologetic excuses like "well, where else would we go?, and who else preaches good news?, and who else uses Jehovah's name? etc etc"

So, can this illustration above be used to help such ones?

Can we say to them "If just ONE drop of poison exists in your glass of water, is it safe to drink it?!"

Maybe add "Revelation says to 'quite touching the unclean thing', so should we not do the same?"

    It's all brainwashing bullshit.

With respect to "the world," flaws are like a drop of poison that ruins the whole thing.

With respect to "Jehovah's organization," flaws are like minor imperfections in a diamond that can only be observed under a microscope. It's still a diamond!

They been playing this game a long time.

I learned to spot this in a psychology class I attended at my local university when I was fading.

Wise old sayings and analogies are not to be relied on.

    For instance:

    Beware of Greeks bearing gifts.

Don't look a gift horse in the mouth.

    Well, which is it?

speaking of one drop of poison in a glass of water, tonight on Dateline the Jim Jones story is going to be featured, which is where I believe we here get the "drink the kool-aid" saying from, which of course the majority of the blindly following Dubs would probably drink up and quench their thirst without a giving a thought about "a drop of poison" being mixed in with the drink

Will JWs abandon the Bible if they find that Bible too contains pagan teachings (or poison) even more than 1%?

For example, to create a parallel to worldly kings trying to kill the anointed one of God and in desperation killing all the children at random to ensure the death of the anointed one [a feature found in pagan scriptures], Bible also creates a story in which Gospel writer Matthew claims shortly after the birth of Jesus, Mary, Joseph and Jesus went to Egypt to flee from King Herod who was allegedly killing all baby boys who were two-years old or younger (Matthew 2:1-21). However, according to Luke 2:39, the "holy" family did not go to Egypt shortly after the birth of Jesus, they went to Nazareth. Neither the Gospel of John or the Gospel of Mark mention this time of Jesus' life. And the same gospel ends with another teaching of trinity (Mathew 28:19) copied from pagan sources. Jeremiah says most of the OT portions that speak about sacrifices are ‘nothing but lies’ (Jeremiah 7:22, 31; 8:8)

In reality, our water does contain chemicals that are poison in larger quantities.

So we DO drink such water , for our good.

    Fallacious indeed !

How many poisons are their in a single cigarette yet people smoke them into their 80`s and 90`s and die with no ill effects apart from a lack of breath .

Lets face it one drop of poison in a glass of water is not going to kill you, lets be realistic.
