Muslims Mocking ISIS Deserve Respect

Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi put out an audio recording on Saturday calling on Muslims to “join the fight”. It is his first public pronouncement in over 7 months.

A number of Muslims have taken to Twitter to mock the self-styled caliph of the Islamic State with comments like "I've got Star Wars on Sunday, maybe later" and "Would do but there's engineering work on the trains around London Bridge. Soz"

OK these guys are tweeting from the relative safety of the UK but I find it very encouraging. The moderates need to be encouraged to keep speaking out. The fall of the Romanian dictator Nicolae Ceausescu was triggered by a brave protestor who dared to mock. Read more here...

I agree but unfortunately, they are the minority. I saw on the BBC that Muslims were protesting in Ireland and the UK after the Paris attacks. Out of the 2.5 million Muslims only two dozen came out to protest against it.Islam is a cult, not unlike the JW cult. It is dangerous because of the indoctrination and the fundamentalism it produces. Christianity had a reformation and is now peaceful. Judaism had a reformation and is now peaceful. So far, Islam has not and never will. Christians might not like my lifestyle and perhaps even HATE me for it, but I have no fear that I will be killed by a crazy bible thumping Christian over my lifestyle choice. However, I have friends from the LGBT community in France and they fear going out in public in many places now because of recent mob violence against the community and the Jewish community. All of the perps were Muslim.

I think you are living in some alternate reality where Muslims are going to all be your friend someday and accept you for who you are and we can all sing Kumbaya as we celebrate freedom. I live in the here and now and it is a dangerous world filled with hate and violence. And right now, Islam is the main culprit of that violence.

Someone posted this video before me but here it is again in case you missed it.

Then you have missed all of my many posts criticising Islam. IMO Douglas Murray, Maajid Nawaz, Sam Harris and Ayan Hirsi Ali are the voices of reason among a flood of wilfully blind regressive liberal commentators.

My OP is an observation that there are some rational muslims who have adopted western values about freedom and democracy and that they should be respected and encouraged.

Barring the discussion on whether these are true scotsmen, it is commendable that they're brave enough to speak up.

It is sad, though, that with more than one billion muslims worldwide, the muslim voice against ISIS still seems akin to a lone individual's cry for help in the middle of a remote wasteland.

Ok sorry I have not read all your posts. Yup you phrased it right "willfully ignorant." But a few, very small number have been westernized. I do know a Muslim who I didn't know was Muslim until recently and she is very secular. I think she is more about the family traditions than the doctrine. There is hope some will wake up but there are so many of them and growing everyday. I see nothing but more radicalization and terror as they increase their presence in western nations. Even if a few step up and be brave against their cult, the majority will not.

They do need to be encouraged to keep speaking out, sadly I think their very small voice is drowned out by the disproportionately large Muslim apologists crying foul for criticizing the religion. Based on ISIS practicing a plausible and accurate interpretation of the faith the whole thing should be criticized.

I still compare those who speak out to us. They are NOT Muslims. They are for more ex-Muslims/apostate/infidels.

I've said this before, but I think one of the main reasons mainstream Christianity and Judaism have - by and large - successfully left behind their violent pasts is they have effectively admitted that many significant portions of their scriptures simply cannot be taken literally and/or are simply wrong.

From what I've seen, Islam hasn't gotten there yet.

I do agree with your O.P Cofty, such people are to be praised.

I think too that humour is a hugely powerful weapon against such awful cults as Islam, and right down to the little insignificant cults like the JW's, along with disgusting political ideologies, usually very Right Wing.

None of these jumped up people like to be laughed at, and making them the subject of ridicule diminishes their chance of recruitment.

I agree! Satire is a powerful weapon against religion and dumb ideas in general, but of all earth's ass-backwards religions, Islam is by far the least satire tolerant, and the apologists and moderates that use moronic words like "islamaphobe" keep it that way. You have two problems shielding Islam from getting what it deserves, Radicals & Moderates/apologists. Put something offensive to Christians on social media, no problem, put something about islam it will likely get yanked as offensive.

To illustrate cowards like obama and his cohorts want everyone to feel that burning qurans, drawing the prophet Mohammed etc.can invite backlash and win new recruits. Seems that way doesn't it? So here is what we should think about then: if so called moderates want to say terrorism has nothing to do with the Islamic religion, why does insulting it invite more terror?

The Texas 'Mohammed drawing' contest was guaranteed to draw violence and it did.

Charlie Hebdo?... we know how that went

We can make fun of Moses all day... no Hasidim is going to strap a bomb to his ass and try to blow us up

We can make jokes, sometimes extremely profane and debasing about Jesus... no one is hunting the person down to kill them.

So my point is this, one of the greatest weapons to fight the radical nature of this religion is censored especially by the moderates/apologists. You just cannot ridicule Islam!

    Make fun of it and:

    1. Oh you are a racists!!!!
    2. How dare you, you islamaphobe!!!
    3. Shhhhh be quiet, if you tease them more will become radicalized!!!!

This is why I get so irritated at Islam and everyone wants to debate the atrocities of other religions in some sort of contest. The reality is you can make fun of them all but not Islam, and those of you that scream racism, inequality, and islamaphobia are the big problem to allowing it to be shown for what it is.
