I wonder what if anything will tat make people want to join. Or maybe they just purposely want the old timers to suffer or die of bitterness.

Yes, your point is well taken re little JW kids, although I was Episcopalian then.

There's got to be something there to work with . . .

The guy died. I suppose a trimmed beard would take him closer to paradise than an unkempt beard!

Probably just a made up story.

I had drinks with my (MS) brother a few weeks ago. I'm not sure how much he's heard about my leaving the cult, but he's tacitly acknowledged that I don't go to meetings. In any event, in the course of the conversation he started talking about how some congregations nearby (Southern US) are allowing beards and he even saw someone in another congregation reading the WT with a beard so he's hopeful that this will make it to his congregation. I suggested that he just grow a beard if he wants to and his response was that he wanted to keep his rank because he likes helping the congregation. Such myopic logic.

Anyway, my point is that it does seem that beards may be becoming acceptable in some places on a wider scale. That said, it could always change in an instant if the GB decides to change their mind.

You need to have a mind in order to change it.

I just wear a beard and don't care what anyone else thinks. Got a lot of grief about it at first, but people have gotten used to it. Still doesn't persuade anyone else to grow one though.

I suppose it's hard taking a before and after photo of the man when he most likely is based on a made-up story.

This could be a made up story, although I do know a homeless man that converted. He was love bombed into submission and would have done anything to keep acceptance by the congregation, especially his conductor and the divorced sister who needed a mate.

If the man in this article exists, and if he is vulnerable to love bombing, he might be willing to shave off his beard eventually, and maybe even marry a nutty old maid from the congregation.
