Has your first impression of someone always been right?

In bussiness I trust my first impressions, but I am looking to size up the potential client. I will say in social setting when I come across a person who rubs me the wrong way at first, often I will in time come to be good friends with that person. Many times a person who is direct or caustic at first is putting their guard up and once you get past that they are very deep and sensitive people who are easily hurt by others. Now, if I feel they are dishonest or criminal I won't let them get close at all. As I get older I put my ego on hold and go with my gut feeling. Maverick

I remember a CO telling us that the best way to get over disliking someone because of our mental impression of them.....was to have them over for a meal and get to know them better. He said once you got to know them, that many of the negative qualities you thought they had, would generally disappear.

Hi JH. First impressions are deceptive. I do not let first impressions guide me. I allow 'time' to be the truth revealer, which means I'll give you the benefit of the doubt. In my professions, I deal with many people and as such, I have to stay neutral. This type of attitude keeps me in the ball park of sanity.

There are times when it is obvious someone is trying to pull your leg or pull the wool over you. (your 6th sense comes into play) If I and when have doubts, I'll ask questions. There are times when I'll play a long with the person's game. Games can be interesting.

What's your impression of people always asking questions?

I generally get the impression that they want me to set fire to them.

This impression usually turns out to be wrong. so I try not to go with it.

My first impressions are ALWAYS wrong.... I have learned I am NOT ( I say NOT) a good judge of people.I have thought some were really wonderful.Others have told me "GRACE you are being used" I told them off for wrongly judging....NO what --- I found they had been giving me sound advice......DAH!!!!!! Mine as well Grace. I'm a terrible judge of character most times based on first impressions. After a little while I'm usually pretty good at judging someone's character though. I try not to base everything on a first impression cause people usually prove themselves after awhile. Live and learn and don't judge yourself too harshly.

WHen I was younger I used to think I had a sixth sense about people...as I've gotten older I've learned to trust only one of those instincts...if someone makes me feel uncomfortable...I get away...this doesn't always work...sometimes I end up trusting people that hurt me...however if I ever get the "watchout" tingle going and ignore it...I always end up on the short end....for this reason...if my spider senses start to tingle...you're outta there.
