    G'day all,

Well, here we are - three quarters of a century of weekend polls. Doesn't seem like it, but when I look back, well, we've sent these polls from downunder and from the tropical jungles of exotic regions as well as from the northern polar region.

So how's the weekend shaping ip? Good we hope. Here we've been having wild weather. Down in Melbourne it's really cold and here in New South Wales it's wet and wild.

Just the weather to be curling up with a weekend poll, eh?

    This weekend's poll question is:

How did you pass the time during the Public Talk?

    1. Listened intently.

    2. Followed along in my Bible.

    3. Read my Bible instead.

    4. Took notes.

    5. Slept.

    6. Dozed off.

    7. Visited the restrooms.

    8. Talked in the carpark.

    9. Wrote notes for my next talk.

    10. Wrote letters.

    11. Wrote Xmas cards!!!

    12. Arrived late, so I missed it!

    13. What's a Public Talk?

    14. Figured it was for the public, so didn't go!

    15. Other (please detail)

Looking forward to reading your reminiscences.

    Enjoy.

    Cheers, OzzieCheers 2

Well, that depended on whether I was feeling guilty for not being spiritual enough, or not (mostly I was not )

So, when feeling guilty: Take notes

When not: Looked around me, drew figures of the speaker, visited the restroom, dozed off, dreamed about the TV that i would switch on when home.

Whew! At first I thought oz said ..." just the weather to curl up with a weekend troll" ... and I thought he had JCanon over to his house.

The public talk:...I listened, and read my bible. If the speaker was good and the subject was intresting.....I listened.....if not, I read my bible.

Thanks for the thread. I'll answer as I have my morning coffee. Hope you have a great weekend.

I would draw cars, trucks or tractors in three point perspective on a scratch pad to entertain my kids. They would just lean on me and be mesmerized by watching me draw. It made time go fast. At the last convention I went to with my wife after I walked away, I designed the crown molding for our house, so that time was put to good use.

If they hadn't started shunning me, I most likely would still be attending the occasional meeting or convention. It was at a circuit assembly that I dropped into and sat through two hours of lectures while I waited to pick up my wife and take her to dinner, that I was mass shunned. I left in sort of outraged shock. That began my war. I am thankful for the shunning. It freed me from the occasional meeting and it gave me the motivation to do the research on Witnessism history and the history of theism. That freed me from theism and magical thinking and brought me to accept human solutions as the only rational solutions available to me. It's all been a real education. GaryB

G'day to you and the Mrs.!

    When I was a "good" dubbie, I would 1 & 2.

Then when I was bored I would 3.

beginning in spring of 2001 I took CoC to the meetings, disguised under a bible cover and read like crazy. Didn't even answer at the WT!

What surprised me after I was doing # 3, I would hear a good thought from the public talk and think of how easy it would be to follow up with the real answer in the bible, instead of the....blah, blah, "paradise", "new system", "do more" etc.

    Now I'm enjoying my freedom.

I would check first and see if it was a talk I hadn't heard a million times before. There are about 150 outlines for public talks but somehow you only hear the same 30 over and over. Some have different titles but the material is the same. If it were certain brothers, I would mentally check out immediately. I tried to be "sick" on those Sundays but sometimes he would be a last-minute substitute.

    Otherwise, I

    3. Read my Bible (making notes of things to look up later)

    10: Wrote letters

15: Played anagrams or other word games

Go to the back room for sisters/mothers and turn off the sound if I was by myself

    Sad to say,

    1. Listened intently.

    2. Followed along in my Bible.

    3. Took notes.

Toward the end, I would write about things that bothered me. It was therapy. Writing
