Funny in Seattle in the Ravenna hall there seems to be lots of young people but they are very loose up here as far as your social activities and associations it seems. Everyone is usually going to music venues and other worldly activities but it's all good if you go to these events with other JWs apparently.Oh and marathons too. They always seem to have time for that stuff. my uber elder cousin went to the Doobie brothers concert just recently which I was amazed about since it was held at a casino venue. But also I think he keeps his activities rather vague to others so there is no judging!

A lot of anecdotal evidence suggests that they don't even really want intelligent minds.

During my Judicial Committee appeal I had one elder tell the others that I was intelligent. One said "Good, we need more intelligent people in the organization." I wonder why.

In my area few of my contemporaries leave for good (I'm in my late 30s now). Most seem to be caught in this never-ending cycle of leaving and coming. The vast majority continue to believe on some level that it's the truth, which is a shame since they're never really able to move on and live a full life.

That's not to say the congregations are full of aspiring elders and pioneers. Most of them exist on the periphery of the religion, hating themselves to varying degrees for not having the self-control to be truly all-in.

Wayward

A third of the Witness kids I grew up with, myself included, left. To the best of my knowledge, only two of those who left came back. Most left in their late teens/early 20s and that was 20 years ago. I'm one of three, other two still in. One MS had both his daughters leave. Another MS same story. One elder had one of his two boys leave. Another elder had three of his four leave, with one coming back. His sister had four of her five leave. These were the elite 'spiritually strong' families. (Except mine. LOL.)

But pre-2011 there was something of substance to come back to. No gurning Lett; no ARC; no huge Bethel layoffs and money grabbing; no overlapping generations. And there was still the diminishing possibility that the real "generation of 1914" might last until say 2014.

All gone.

In my area we've had one long time DF come back after 20 years. He is - and has been - in and out of mental health in-patient facilities all that time and his aging mother has been desperate for him to "come back". He's back and living with Mummy at the age of 40.

That is the quality of the borg's version of Luke 15 ...

I've said this before, but when you purge all the intellectuals, creative types, and outside-the-box thinkers out of any international organization, you'll inevitably be left with a "worldwide body" of morons.

And on some level, this guy had grasped that fact.
