The worst experience I had was working with my young daughter and a guy came to the door and told me to f---k --f - and then slammed the door in our face -- I used to hate going out in field service on Christmas Day with a passion. What is the worst experience you guys have had?

About 30 years ago, we got rear ended, at a stop sign, by a kid with no insurance, while in service on Christmas Day. Our insurance had to pay the damages to our car, and the medical care of our passengers who had neck injuries, including me. It was a big collision. We were stopped and the car was going full boar. We were all drinking hot coffee too, and it spilled all over us. No burns, but it was HOT!!

Our insurance was cancelled, of course.

I think I only ever went out one Christmas and most people were so happy with festivities that many took magazines just to be friendly. So, no really bad experiences that I can recall.

However, the following years I got to hate the idea of going out at Christmas and Easter more and more - until one day, while working with an elder, I asked him if he went out at Christmas. "Well," he said, "I wouldn't like people calling at my door if I had family round and so I don't go calling on others at such times!"

"That's good enough for me," I thought and never went out again during the holidays!

Obviously, the elder hated going out at Christmas as much as I - but I took great pleasure in using his conscience

Happy Christmas stillanexjwelder - and may you find the genuine happiness you deserve!

I only went out when I was regular pioneering and needed time. The last time was December 1985. A woman came to the door and started yelling at me that I didn't believe in Christ. I just stood there until she ran out of steam. Then she was embarrassed, yelling at me on Christmas Day. She invited me in and we got out her Bible and read the account and discussed why it was such a momentous occasion. She was a young woman on her own and couldn't get home for the holidays. When the doorbell rang, she thought her family was able to make it. What a disappointment to see a JW on her stoop. I had my epiphany that day. No more Christmas preaching. And I haven't been since that day.

Nope didn't go out on holidays in the late 80's we had great experiences one Christmas I miscarried, another Christmas someone came in our house left all the doors open (we had a wood stove with a blower so we heard nothing) and fed our puppy in the garage anti-freeze and left he died and my kids were icicles when we woke up.

This is the second post in as many days on this topic. I never knew they went out on Christmas and Easter!

I bet the reception isn't too warm....However, I would never yell or curse anyone out for it, especially with a child present.

How and who started with this silly idea? I ask because, the public knows one thing for certain about dubs, and that is that they do not believe in the trinity (the basis of all christian denominations). So I feel the dubs are being sent to the slaughter by being sent out on major Christian Holidays...Someone has a screw loose there!

Sorry for starting a topic which had already been done earlier. I remember a concession made on New Years Day 2000 -- because it was a special New Year, I know our congregation elders said "Look there is no point going out, everyone will be in bed recovering from the night before or hungover" -- so they actually cancelled the ministry that day much to everyones relief. Now and again . believe it or not, commonsense does prevail in Dubdom.

I wasnt criticizing you (forgive me). No, I just meant that I had never heard of it before. Or been visited by them before on holidays. It is shocking to me that they would send people out on the biggest of Christian Holidays.

I hope for the sake of the rank and file, that they cease and desist. They meet with enough aggression going door to door (so outdated).

They started the door to door thing right after WW2, when door to door salesmen were common. You know, everything from bibles to vaccum cleaners. That is a dead business now. Everyone seems to know that except the dubs. Sigh....

Computer access has alot to do with that, people can explore and purchase at their leisure, and that makes door knocking annoying to the public...
