Fluffiness: Hiding Christmas gifts?

Wow, very, very helpful ideas for me!! The ironing basket is a good idea for me. I would never have thought of a freezer...

What's really funny, as Angh. mentioned, is when you can "hide" them right in front of them. One room's lights are burned out, and since no one's bothered to put a new bulb in yet, the very dark corner next to a desk hides a black computer tower very easily... My kids are old enough to look; I have to get creative!!

I thought we weren't suppossed to celebrate christmas?

According to... who? which year? The authority and time has changed; you weren't told, apparently, that Christmas is now left up to consciences, like the pinata.

    Check next year's January WT.

Kran, you must be very newly out of the JW's. Most of us here are absolutely comfortable about celebrating holidays.

Lighten up, and relax. It will likely happen to you too.

    Kran,

    First of all, WELCOME!

Are you recently out of Watchtower or are you still in? Or have you never been a JW? Why is it you are against celebrating Christmas?

    Regards,

    Ian

My parents were the best Santa's ever...they used different paper then the ones they used on the other gifts. It was always the really cool paper like Candy Cane or the heavy colored foils you know something Santa would use. They used different handwriting and I fouund out later that they hid the presents in the trunk of the car LOL We always had a garage LOL and we sure weren't allowed the keys, I guess when the others were home the excess went in the top of Mom's closet.

I myself bought mine right before Christmas and just wrapped them. I even made a stocking for Mom and Dad LOL

Now I do the same thing buy and wrap. I still haven't started shopping

OK. You haven't answered whether you're still a JW or not but that doesn't matter. The point is, many of us here are healing from years - even lifetimes - as JWs. I was a baptised JW for 15 years, plus I associated with them for 4 years prior to my baptism. We were told how God frowns on pagan celebrations, such as Christmas and birthdays, etc. Then, we came to our senses and realised that what Watchtower had been telling us about Christ's kingdom being set up in 1914, that our parents would not grow old and die and that we would still be alive at Christ' coming, that the Governing Body are spiritually directed and part of the 144,000, that Jerusalem fell in 607 BCE, etc., was nothing but an absolute pack of lies!!! That's a fact!

Therefore, after our lives had been robbed of so much we have all decided that it's jolly well fine to celebrate Christmas, Easter, birthdays, etc. Indeed, it's even healthy to celebrate them.

I'm sorry if you are not yet in the swing of the Christmas spirit. This will be my family's first Christmas for 19 years (but minus my two daughters who are still JWs and who are shunning us for leaving). I very much hope you come to find the truth about Watchtower. It can be a very painful road, but the end result is worth it.

Please stick around and read the many posts here. Search the archives to learn about the utter folly of Watchtower. There are many exelders here plus exCOs and DOs. We are NOT the enemy - as you will find out.

We all wish you well and hope that you'll at least enjoy the holidays.

    Best wishes,

    Ian, Claire and Family

    Kran,

I also really wish to welcome you to the board! I'm sorry I couldn't resist teasing you. I'm not always this bad... I like your name by the way; sounds like a dish at a Chinese restaurant...

But it is interesting that the WT has softened its stance on using pinatas (can't remember the actual WT issue, but it was in Sept), which used to be pretty much the same as its stance about Christmas. In the Sept issue, they actually made a good point, that the connotations of symbols are not necessarily preserved over time. That also applies to symbols used in other situations, like Christmas. And though early Christians may not have celebrated birthdays much, I have read that Jews do have a long history of doing so. And celebrating good events through annual memorials/festivals is not a foreign idea in the Bible. The basic concept is there.

Whether/how one celebrates Christmas should like the pinata be left as a matter of conscience. Giving gifts can be a kind habit to develop, for we are (finally) thinking (hopefully) beyond ourselves. Being joyful and being with family is a wonderful way of celebrating your blessings. (Getting plastered isn't... Oh, and don't cuss at the people in the mall or on the road. )

If you don't celebrate, please don't look down your nose at those who do. Even if you are doing technically what is right for you, you'll spoil that good action by cultivating a worse element: pride.

Now back to hiding places... I just realized: we have a tent trailer!! Buwaahahahaaa!! Thanks Morty. ... I used to keep the gifts in the trunk in previous years, but now I worry about them being stolen so I try to move them out ASAP.

Definately at work is great place to keep them if you have that option. Also work areas in the basement or somewhere in a closet behind the clothes that are hanging up.
