Hope you have a joyeux noelle! Bon appetit and laissez les bon temps roullez!

The Chaberts have lived in Breaux Bridge for a long time. I think he was raised there. He is in Texas now, where I am.

    Happy Gumbo eating to all!

Merry Xmas to all , and to all of you Cajuns. I am in Northwest Louisiana so I really am not a true Cajun, but everyone thinks I am. I was born in Houston , Texas and since I am still closer to Dallas than New Orleans I don't feel I am a true cajun......lol.

But, I garrrrrrrrr runnnnnnnn tee,,,,,,we love our cajun food here, our Mudbug festivals, Mardi Gras, and anything we can think of to have a party. Now that is where the Cajun shows it's ways in this part of Louisiana.

Ahhhhh the food, I had my first batch of crawfish the other day and was in total heaven. In fact in our home there is hardly a food that doesn't have some Zataran's cajun seasoning on it......hehe. We do love our spices.

We have beautiful bayous, dripping with spanish moss , gorgeous green trees all year and the weather is pretty fair in the winter, thank goodness , I hate the cold.

Frannie, thanks -- I liked this a lot. The verb constructions sound authentic. Was this written by a Cajun or just someone with a good ear? I like the wry sense of humor displayed here.

    Dere's eight alligator,
    A pullin' de skiff.
    An' a little fat drover,
    Wit' a long pol'n stick,
    I know r'at away,
Got to be ole St. Nick.

That is a really wild vision of Christmas!...

here in the UK, Cajun is not really known. If I started using the word I doubt if people would know what it is. But I love the Cajun music and zydeco. It sometimes figures on a blues radio programme. Maybe one day I can visit Cajun country , have some gumbo and catch a live gig , (Dream on)

    Merry Christmas, all

You mention that you live in the Cajun Triangle of Texas. What is it again? Is it Port Arthur, Orange and Beaumont? Or am I completely off the mark? I know some Cajuns who moved to Port Arthur and they said there was quite a contingency there.

I'm going to visit my sister who lives in Plaquemine, 20 miles south of Baton Rouge, for the holidays (beginning tomorrow until the 27th). She always makes gumbo for me. I love it so much; I think I could eat it for every meal this whole week coming. But I know she will have other "surprises" for me, more than likely crawfish and other seafoods, etc. I can almost savor it all right now.

Hope you have a Blessed Christmas and happiness throughout the New Year. And I wish the same for everyone else on this Board.

Kenneson, yes, I live in Beaumont and you got the triangle right....actually it's more locally known as the "golden triangle" for the many oil fields here (black gold)...but there is a huge Cajun contingency, as your friends have told you.

You're a lucky duck, cher! I hafta cook my own Gumbo....and like you, I could eat it every day...heh

    Joyeaux Noel, Kenneson!
