At the Catholic Encyclopedia on line I learned of some more Bible "prophecies" and fullfillments (tongue in cheek)I had not heard of as a JW.

It seems Constantine used the actual nails from the Cross and fashioned one into a bridle for his horse. This according to various Church Fathers fullfilled Zechariah 14:20, "In that day there will prove to be upon the bells/bridle, holiness..".

    I'm sorry, are you serious?

So the ruler of the roman empire found a set of 250 year old iron nails (probably heavily corroded, if not outright disintegrated) and NOT a plausible fake - and fulfilled Bible prophecy by making a bridle out them?

The iron would have been rusted completely away, and unusable, even if he had found them, which since they were used to kill a criminal 250 years before, probably weren't high on the list of things to preserve through the ages, yes?

Or, the simpler explanation, the Church fathers, seeking to solidify their legitimacy under the new Christian emperor, decided to LIE and MAKE STUFF UP. come on, these guys were the spiritual fathers of the WT, which continues their grand tradition of historical revision.

I mean, I believe in God, and all, but I don't need the ridiculous in order to accept the sublime.

"Prophecies are everywhere it seems ,one needs only eyes of faith to see them!" Just look at the Epistle of Barnabas for all the prophecies it conjures up from scratch through typology. The most ironic thing I find about the Society is its heavy reliance on typology to construct prophecies about itself. Really, now. They rail on and on about how early Christianity was corrupted by Greek philosophy especially the worst of them all, Plato! That's where the Trinity and immortality of soul doctrines supposedly come from. Yet they are totally unaware that the practice of typology, so characteristic of Hellenistic Alexandrine Christianity (as Philo, the Letter of Hebrews, Barnabas, and Clement of Alexandria attest), comes right out of Plato's theory of types.

Of course I was being facetious. Czar the line between sublime and ridiculous is dotted.

Not at all. Relics are preserved forever by the holiness of the saint. Those nails are still perfectly shiney, except for bits of jesus' blood on them, still perfetly preserved as well. **(note, heavy sarcasm)
