I should have listened to the advice given to me by Big_Tex... in my post about being sick he said that I should go to the doctor.
I never go to the doctor for viruses. My understanding has always been that they can't really do anything to help you, other than treat the symptoms (antibiotics do not help with viruses). This has been true, until a new anti-viral medication came available about two years ago. I forgot what it is called, but there is only one, so just mention it to your doctor and he/she will know exactly what it is.
This new anti-viral medication is actually designed for the flu virus. It does not kill the virus, but it will stop it from reproducing. Because of this it is very important to get to the doctor within one or two days after you start feeling bad. The doctor also has a 15 minute test that will tell if you do in-fact have the flu.
I did not go to the doctor until Thursday (My first symptoms showed Sunday evening). When I was there my doctor told me all of this... so I needlessly suffered all that time. The only reason I did go was because I had an incredibly sever sore throat. I was hoping she could give me some pain killers or something. As it turned out I had developed a secondary bacterial infection in my throat. She was able to give me some vicodin (Woo Hoo! ) and an antibiotic. Within 24 hours most of my symptoms were gone! (Don't worry, I did complete the full course of the antibiotics)
From now on I'm going to the doctor when I get sick!
