Pagan University ... lol

Last week, while I was sitting at work, I noticed something I had never noticed before.

Mind you, I work at the University Library, so I have been walking around that building for six years or so, while studying, and now while working. Four of those years ... I was a JW. So, in all fairness, I should have noticed I was breathing, walking, practically living, in a building that has pagan signs all over the place. LOL.

Anyway, Last week, I look up, and *gasp* a big frigging ankh shines down on me, and that is not the only symbol decorating the Library. Lol, those things have been there for ages, and only *now* I noticed it...

If it's in the library, it looks like they are modelling after the Great Library of Alexandria - those are Egyptian symbols.

Wouldn't necessarily be "pagan" per se, but it would be a cultural reference for that kind of interior design. Of course, I could be wrong.

    Czar,

Even though Alexandria is in Egypt, it's Library would have been more likely to have been decorated with Greek symbols.

I imagine that Alexander, being the multi-cultural imperialist that he was, might have allowed some Egyptian symbols in the library he was building. He was enamored of Egyptian learning ,even to the point of sacrificing the Apis bull.

Although, now I'm not so certain - I mean, did Alexander actually build that library, or did one of the Greek warlords do it later?

Anyway, my point is, that a certain amount of blending was inherent, so perhaps they could have used the egyptian symbols on the walls. Which would be the reason the egyptian symbols are on the wall of viv's library.

Can you offer an alternative theory as to why those symbols are up in viv's library?

I am (nominally) taking courses at the Sacramento Grove of the Oak Druid College. The Grove's founder is a former professor, who dreams of creating an accredited institution with a fairly broad curriculum, of course emphasizing material of particular interest to Neo-Pagans. I should suggest to Michael that if he wants to get realy busy, he could start offering correspondence courses....

    Viv,

some christians use the slippery slope illustration to show how these little things are leading to anarchy. Each moral breach in the institution of civilisation is like another hole in the dam, holding back human wickedness. By their reckoning, your country should be practically there, what with all the other liberalisms going Well, not really.
