AlanF,
I'm surprised that you stoop so low to answer my question. Now we on the same level.

AlanF,
I'm surprised that you stoop so low to answer my question. Now we on the same level.
Such command of the English language, Fred.
Slipnslidemaster: Don't hate me because I'm beautiful.
G'day Prisca,
I note that you didn't actually say that you'd bought it. You did, didn't you?
Quite a find. Modern-day dubs pretend :
1. It doesn't exist
2. Don't worry about it - it's "old light"
A very few think it's intellectually stimulating.
The rest of us think as does AlanF "it shows the lunatic mindset of the Rutherford group that took over the WTS after Russell's death"
Cheers,
Ozzie

Thanks guys for your comments.
10 points to Ozziepost for his observation. Although I failed to mention it, I did buy the book (of course I would, lol).
And despite the efforts of Tallyman - I ain't selling it mate! Sorry bro! Not even if you shouted me with a 1st class ticket to the States, with champagne on arrival, and... on second thoughts, what is your best offer, Tally? lol....
I can understand that there are some like Mulan who wonder why people like me (and Tallyman!) would covert such a book. Yet as uncanny said, "After making such a startlingly rare find, why would you want somebody else to own this unique piece of theocratic WT history - so much a part of your/my history - for a couple a hundred bucks?"
So I'm keeping it. It's in good condition (much better than the one presently advertised on Ebay) and it's MINE.
My, what big teeth you have!
Or did you swallow that wasp at the BBQ?
BTW treat the book gently. Bindings on old books tend to fall apart, and we wouldn't want that to happen, would we?[8>]
That's what is happening to my Divine Plan of the Ages. (No, it's not 'cos Mrs Ozzie takes it for her bedtime read!)
Cheers,
Ozzie

This thread brought back memories, LOL.
BTW, looking through the book recently, and discovered that there were about half a dozen pages cut out. A friend said it was because it had some info that displeased the governments, and the JWs were made to get rid of the offending pages. Does anyone know more about this?
"When it had been learned that the government objected to the book, Brother Rutherford had immediately sent a telegram to the printer to stop producing it, and at the same time, a representative of the Society had been dispatched to the intelligence section of the U.S. Army to find out what their objection was. When it was learned that because of the war then in progress, pages 247-53 of the book were viewed as objectionable, the Society directed that those pages be cut out of all copies of the book before they were offered to the public." [Jehovah's Witnesses -- Proclaimers of God's Kingdom (1993), p. 652]
Prisca,
The book is worth between $140-$200 (us) in good condition. Keep the book.....it's priceless!
Here some stuff on the book
Notes on the FINISHED MYSTERY (1917)
After Russell's death in 1916, Joseph F. Rutherford became president of the Society. In 1917 he published The Finished Mystery in which he made some bold predictions of his own regarding the years 1918 and 1920. These predictions also failed to materialize. However when a new edition of the book was published in 1926, the offending statements were modified so as to cover up the false prediction:
The Finished Mystery 1917 Edition
"Also in the year 1918, when God destroys the churches and the church members by millions it shall be that any that escape shall come to the works of Pastor Russell to learn the meaning of the downfall of "Christianity."
"16:20. And every island fled away. Even the republics will disappear in the fall of 1920."
"And the mountains were not found. Every kingdom of the earth will pass away, be swallowed up in anarchy." -page 485 (A-11)
"The three days in which Pharaoh's host pursued the Israelites into the wilderness represent the three years from 1917 to 1920 at which time all of Pharaoh's messengers will be swallowed up in the sea of angry humanity. The wheels will come off their chariots - organizations." -page 258
(A-11)
The Finished Mystery 1926 Edition
"Also in the year 1918, when God begins to destroy the churches and the church members by millions it shall be that any that escape shall come to the works of Pastor Russell to learn the meaning of the downfall of "Christianity."
"16:20. And every island fled away. Even the republics will disappear in the time of anarchy."
"And the mountains were not found. Every kingdom of the earth will pass away, be swallowed up in anarchy." -page 485 (A-11)
"The three days in which Pharaoh's host pursued the Israelites into the wilderness represent the three years preceding the time of anarchy at which time all of Pharaoh's messengers will be swallowed up in the sea of angry humanity. The wheels will come off their chariots - organizations." -page 258

Volume 7 is valuable because it shows the lunatic mindset of the Rutherford group that took over the WTS after Russell's death. Of course, this lunacy spawned the lunatics that run today's WTS. AlanF | |

Does anyone know what the removed pages said?
Pris. If that book is worth 400 Ozzie dollars it might be worth my killing you so I can keep it. Like everyone says, its a collectors masterpiece. I got the Revelation section photocopied complete for my own reference library, cost me 50 bucks but I figure its worth it. I must admit, your copy is in VERY good condition. Best Ive ever seen. Youd be surprised how many nutty ex dubs possess a copy of this book, God knows where they get em from.
