Why do we talk about Brittany Spears? Cars? Marijuana? Music?
Frankly, I think politics is especially relevant to ex-jw's, as it is something we were expressly forbidden from as witnesses. It is very much an ex-jw issue.

liberal conservative whatever...just a bunch of XJW freakos w/strong opinions and an Internet connection...*LOL* Said in the most loving way of course.. If we didn't talk about news in general it would be easy to exclude politics, but that isn't very likely to happen. It isn't that hard to play nice, unless of course as my friend Sixofnine says, "you're nice, but you're not that nice..." eheh Have a good evening all.

I don't see how we are going to avoid it, really. The coming election is already getting hot here in USA, and can only get worse. Somehow we just have to stop the name calling. I am pro Bush, but I read all political viewpints b/c i want to expand my thinking. No one has all the answers. But I should be as free as the liberals to state a viewpont, post and article without having a mob of posters attacking me for putting up so called right wing propaganda.
I agree this board is not for just political discussion. But to try and ignore it, or just allow one side-how interesting /fair is that? Either that, or we ban all political comments. That is going to be difficult. Just like the War issue that divided so many of us, the election is going to do the same if we don't come up with a plan. Will we allow political animosity to be our downfall?

Stacy, I didn't understand how your post related to mine.
There's a reason the board's been heated up politically in the past year: there's a WAR, an INVASION. Anyone who's thinking has that on their mind, it seems to me. Name calling is out, of course, and it doesn't seem to me that there are many here who still do that.
Remember what it was like with Kent, Focus, Norm, and JanH? There was a LOT more discussion and heat then, it seems. But those guys were such good debaters, there wasn't much arguing with them! Besides, they're the ones who caused my political change of view. And remember Seeker? They were all good thinkers and debaters. I miss them.

It turns me off, & makes me not get involved on this board. People feel passionate about their positions, but any kind of imbalance where a person continuously spouts their rhetoric, starts threads that appear to be about other topics, & is just talking AT everyone else, smacks of attempts to influence other people's thoughts. Politics is a topic that historically has pissed people off. When I come on this board & see certain individuals continuously do this, I wonder how it helps anyone get on with their lives, or get freedom from the borg. There is enough stress in everyone's lives, I wonder what joy this brings to anyone, & what togetherness it promotes.
