    The gall of these people!

If they don't get their homework done they call the teachers and explain that Christian meetings are more important?!

Nice. So pretty much anytime a JW kid doesn't feel like doing homework on a tuesday or thursday they have an out from their parents?!

    GAH!

And as a teacher, your hands are tied.

I remember staying up till past midnight trying to finish homework. School was over an hour's bus ride away, I'd come home too exhausted to dive right into more work. Then it was dinner, then meeting, then home at 9.30 to start on school work. Fortunately, my parents let me sleep in on weekends instead of dragging me out in service.

The upside to the km article is that the excuse for not doing homework is more inventive than "The dog ate it."

My father, who was college educated, and became a dub after, didn't make us go to school hardly at all. We missed so much school, it was almost pointless to continue once we reached high school. His reasoning was that Armaggedon was right around the corner, so why waste time in school when there was no future? He never encouraged college, and my sister was the only one so far who actually went all four years of high school. I have a GED, and my little brother now has to try and go to high school for the first time at 18. I hope that I can get him away from the cult and stick him in college before it's too late!!!

In this article, the Watchtower equates homework to someting as "mundane" as gathering wood. It states that; "Jehovah showed that pursuing mundane activities during times designated for worship is a serious matter" and cites Numbers 15:32-36 in support.

Well what does the scriptures cited actually say?

32 While the sons of Israel were continuing in the wilderness, they once found a man collecting pieces of wood on the sabbath day. 33 Then those who found him collecting pieces of wood brought him up to Moses and Aaron and the whole assembly. 34 So they committed him into custody, because it had not been distinctly stated what should be done to him.

35 In time Jehovah said to Moses: ?Without fail the man should be put to death, the whole assembly pelting him with stones outside the camp.? 36 Accordingly the whole assembly brought him forth outside the camp and pelted him with stones so that he died, just as Jehovah had commanded Moses.

Hardcore JW families (and there are plenty of them) do not miss the significance of this type of reference. The children of Elders, Ministerial Servant/Elder wannabees and other 'spiritual family heads' have just had their education firmly subordinated to and by the Watchtower Society.

How would a teenager who wants to work hard at his education be viewed by the congregation if - against the wishes of his parents - he chose to stay home on occasional meeting nights to produce quality coursework and to revise in readiness for his exams?

"Without fail the man should be put to death, the whole assembly pelting him with stones outside the camp."

    Exactly!

SAVE THIS MATERIAL! It helps show the sick fanaticism of the Watchtower Society.

.. useful in courts and dealing with authorities.

No wonder people get angry at God. What a cruel God! I thought he was supposed to be a God of love. The poor man was killed for picking up sticks on the Sabbath? How sad.

You have got to be kidding me. What happened to "render unto Caeser's what is Caeser's, and render unto God's what is God's?"

Besides, is it really that vital to go to umpteen jillion meetings every week? Would it really kill a kid to miss one once in awhile to finish something as important as homework?

Watch and see how many do not follow this advice. All through the years there has always been JWS kids whose parents bucked the system and sent their kids to college and let them play sports and all. It will be the sheep who follow this advice, bet u some middle to upper class elders and such let their kids do their homework, and they won't get counseled either.
