I was just browsing the Russian JW site and saw this image that appears to represent Christian persecution by showing handcuffs in front of prison bars that appear to form a cross. Which would be weird because they don't even believe in the cross, or maybe it was clip art from another source and they didn't notice. Or last and most likely I'm seeing things that aren't there π

I think you're seeing things that aren't there (or likely weren't intentional)

Just prison bars.

don't be cross, ask them to use a honeycomb pattern, requires less steel.

I know news outlets will insert this kind of imagery all the time as the official image for a story to a make a point so you could be right.
The cross of the bars forming a crucifix with the cuffed hands placed strategically in front signally the incarcerations related to religious freedoms etc yeah I could see an editor running with that.
Is it a stock photo or theirs?

It's a stock photo
It shows up in several crime related stories
Just do a google image search. It's a popular image

If itβs a stock photo then itβs perfect. Xian people will see that image and see a cross, then they will associate JWism with Xianity.
Xian: β Omg, look at those bars...They look like the cross.β
Iβm sure the stock photo was carefully chosen.
