Coworker:uhhhh, so everyone shows up, they pour wine that no one drinks and break bread that no one eats and then everyone goes home?

This is why I could never understand why the JW memorial was such a big deal. They invite everyone and their dog, but noone partakes.

For my funniest memorial experience, my mother invited a woman she brought into the truth who became inactive. When the bread and wine were passed, this woman partook. Everyone around us was whispering in each others' ear. I was shocked. My mother was shocked.

Not long after, the woman was DFed

For tomorrow's conversation, you should explain about the invisible war in heaven and the invisible reign of Christ. He's going to think you're pulling his leg.

    This thread has me ROFLMAO!

I explained JW teachings to my sister in law... she just laughed. So did I. It did not make sense to her... she just would retort with "yeah, right..."...

It's always funny to see people's reactions when you feel they are not "persecuting you". (remember, anyone who laughs at stupid teachings is persecuting you... )

Try explaining to him how scorpion stings in revelation refer to Watchtowers being left at householders doors, LOL!

Explain to your coworker that parents will never speak to their child again if they do not want be the same religion as them.

Irongland:Yes. Yes it is, now lets go get some lunch.

What would have been cool was when you sat down to eat....... you take out some bread and wine from your lunch box and start speaking in tongues, and scare the hell out of your buddy

I agree with everyone else in the stupidity of attending an occasion in which those who are to participate, are not enough to even be present at all the halls that are co-memorating it.(can't spell commemorate)

For committed Christians, it must sound really ridiculous. As Dave says, "they all get together and reject the ransom of Jesus Christ".

I have 'tried' to explain things to my boyfriend and I find it so difficult doing so now. I will begin to say something and get half way into it and look at his face and know that this is sounding ridiculous and how did people fall for this? or agree to that? He keeps telling me he wouldn't have lasted 15 minutes as a JW before they kicked him out.

The really sad thing is there was a time when we did fall for this stuff.. it did make sense somehow...

Well, they don't start you out with the ridiculous doctrines. They start out with those that make sense, and that appeal to people......paradise earth, no more sickness, no hellfire, loving God, etc. etc. It's only after you've bought into the more reasonable doctrines that they ease you into the off-the-wall stuff. By then, you've accepted the basic, sensible doctrines and it's easier to accept those doctrines that don't make quite as much sense. It's kind of a "well, they were right about that other doctrine, so they must also be right about this one....I just don't fully comprehend it yet." And then they build from there. Once you're hooked, you're much more likely to accept doctrines that, if they were told to you right at the beginning, you would laugh and reject them outright. That's what mind control is all about.
